If we are talking about stock, show me a single metric where the N54 E92 was faster?
I agree I had a n54 and and now I have a xdrive n55 msport and I honestly can say the n55 has more pull and less lag all the way through the rev range compared to the n54. Both are fantastic engines but there's a reason they went from the n54 and why they kept the n55 in the 4 series

I've read this article in the past and and do agree with some of the points made but where talking claimed dyno output, not real world driving like these cars will be used for and having both cars my n55 felt faster off the line and through most of the rpm range, there was a slight fall off at the top of the range compared to the n54 but because the car felt to to get up to speed faster, my opinion is the n55 felt like the faster of the two not to say the n54 want faster on a race track or at the drag strip. Numbers don't lie and these two engines are pretty much identical In every aspect but reliability and that's a big pro in my book compared to a tenth of a second to sixty or a dyno sheet saying the car is a millisecond slower or dyno a tad bit less. If bmw felt this engine was not as powerful or had more power and wasn't reliable they would of discontinued it and designed a whole new engine for the 4. There's now way the e92 n54 and 435 are substantially different in performance esp in the real world settinf

Here (Switzerland) the quoted figures for 0-62 without and [with] sport auto transmission, are:
5.4sec [5.1sec] - 435i
5.2sec [4.9sec] - 435i xdrive
-.-sec [4.7sec] - 435d xdrive

Since they don't get the 435i xdrive and if they didn't have the sport automatic transmission, that could explain the quoted 5.4sec figure...

There are a lot of variables at play here...

0-60 vs 0-62
1 ft roll out (US std) vs no roll out (EU std)
Auto vs Manual
X-Drive vs RWD
