Facelifted BMW 3-Series Sedan spied up close.LED headlights and new rear taillights

I see LED headlights and new rear taillights

Quote:
The BMW 3-Series has been around for a couple of years so the company is preparing a minor facelift for the popular model.
Caught undergoing testing in Europe, the facelifted model is instantly recognizable as it appears to only feature modified bumpers and restyled air intakes.
Bigger changes are expected under the hood as previous reports have indicated there will be upgraded four- and six-cylinder engines. There could also be some new entry-level variants with the company's 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine. We can also expect a plug-in hybrid with a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

Looks like a sweet upgrade.

Interested to hear more about the under the hood changes though. The return of the 318i would be interesting.

Its sort of weird they didnt put the 318i up in the lineup when they have 318d. But the 320i ED is the same 170hp 1.6 as used in the 118i. Should just called it 18i from the getgo.

The 320i is getting the 192hp/280nm engine that sits in the Cooper S
and the 25i should be back With 231hp(up from 218 that sits in for ex 125i now) and 30i With 272 hp to replace 28i.

just cuz they're on the test mule doesn't mean they'll make it to production.

BMW has an upcharge of $1900 for those LEDs, where will that $$ be absorbed if they become standard?

So, the 30i is essentially the 28i with that rumoured PPK, the + 27hp as stated in that spec. sheet that came out last year. Will be interesting to see if there will be any hardware changes between the two, if they change any thing internally or just software. Canīt imagine the exhaust system or intake will differ. Really hoping it will be possible to "update" to get those 2 extra iīs. Still stayin away from aftermarket tunes/piggybacks.

This is the first time we're seeing the rear of the car covered, and since this is the first or second time we're seeing the rear of the car covered, then I'm guessing BMW will be changing something.

BMW needs LED headlights as an option at least. The new Mercedes C-Class has them as standard.

I'm pretty sure they will be there, just in the form of the 'Lighting Package'.

Here they are $1,300 for the plain LED ones and $2,000 for the adaptive ones on the new C Class

Of course they'll make it to production. We've never seen features on an LCI mule that did not.

They won't be standard. LED headlights will be a ~$2K upgrade to the 330i/340i models, which will come standard with Xenons. Just like the 4-series behaves now, except the 320i won't get that LED option, and still come standard with halogens.

No way standard Xenon on a 320i.

I bet the F30 LCI will get steering upgrades as well. Also, probably some "safety" type features that we don't even know about, yet.

The 330i will not be the 328i with a PPK. It's a new engine altogether, the B48. The 340i will have the B58. The 320 will retain the N20.

I hope Xenon is standard for the F30 at least, but fear that won't be the case. However as I stated before, LED's NEED to be an option, thus I wonder if they'll either make Xenon's standard, or offer two lighting options (insane confusion ..)

Finally, Xenons standard on the 3 series(if it happens). Now if only BMW would make the rear lights LED standard as well....and not only during the LCI. I don't the the US will be getting the new engines though, Please correct me if I am wrong.

It's about darn time Xenons came standard on a 3 series. The Corolla had LED headlights before the 3 series did.

In the pipeline models/changes thread it says we're getting the new engines, why would they not give the US the new engines in the first place?

What suspension and engine upgrades are you talking about? The E90 LCI was in 2009 and any suspension changes (different shock absorber supplier) didn't happen until 2011. The N52 didn't change and the N55 replaced the N54 but that was not necessarily an upgrade except for better fuel economy.

I didn't say Xenons would be standard on all 3-series. I think you'll see them standard on the 330i/340i. And the base price of the 330i will increase to reflect that. The 320i will stick with halogens (standard) for the foreseable future. That car is trying to hit a price point, and doesn't need an expensive headlight assembly.

Looks like the headlight and tail light housing shape won't change... Can't wait to see the new M-Sport kit.
