Saloon Boot lead feels cheap

So I got boot lid with auto open but I find closing is an issue because the boot lid is so light I find if I try close gentle it fails to engage lock and springs back up open or if I go to hard it locks but an unpleasant slam.

Anyone finds this issue?

With E46 the boot lead was heavy and had springs that assisted closing, you only needed to bring down boot half was and then the weight naturally pushes it down and springs gentry guide it.

The lighter the better... who wants a heavier car than necessary?

It needs the strong mechanism so it still works when everyone fits rear spoilers

You don't undestand. I do not want heavy boot I would think that BWN would counter light boot with some mechanism that could propel boot down to locking position.

And no paying extra for self closing boot is not a techinical solution, it's an extra.

I am having same issue and I do not like slamming my doors or boot but I have to with this one

Is this standard issue or can be fixed with lock adjustment ?

I noticed this on the various F30 loaners that I have had over the years. The bootlid has a much cheaper feel than the E90. The latter used to pull itself closed over the last few cm, as long as you got the weighting of your pull-down right (which was easy). The F30 needs a tinny slam.

Ah ok fair enough, misunderstood your point. However I think it is the fact that it is now auto lift that's the issue. By making the mechanism strong enough to lift it on its own I suspect it's the consequence and downside of that.

Have to say that having the powered tailgate as standard on the tourer is very nice.

E9x had had lifts and a remote release that didn't fully open the boot lid, whereas the 4 series has a spring - hence the light feeling I believe

Not so long ago boot lid springs were a couple of torsion rods. The tension could be adjusted by repositioning the ends of the rods in a series of notches.

i thought i share with my results, i adjusted 2 plastic studs on the boot and its now much easier to close, it is obeying my first hand command and doesn't spring back up.

The studs are tight i had to use vice grips and cloth so it doesn't scratch the studs and rotating clockwise so you are screwing in, keep adjusting and testing, i do think you want to screw in completely in as these do have job of reducing harsh impact of the boot slam on the locking mechanism.

My mate has a new C class C220 (came from a F10 520d) and is amazed at just how cheap and flimsy the bootlid is.

All cars are going this way unfortunately
