Auto Stop Start

Seems on US spec cars Auto Stop Start is coded to remember last position - ie on or off
My new Gran Coupe seems to always revert to ASS on when restarted
Does anyone know if it's possible to have this altered by dealer to either remember last position (ie off if that's your preference) likein other markets, or turned off completely (although I'm almost certain this won't be possible via dealer)
Thanks

It can be coded to remember the last setting. There's easy to find threads with the details.

I changed my F30 to have ASS off on start along with a few other things a few weeks ago. Suggest you read the 'Coding in Perth' thread below which will provide some background.

When I purchased my car (pre-loved) from BMW Brisbane, the sales guy did mention that they did it for a customer but I got the impression that it was not something they would normally do plus he said it was expensive. The reality is that I paid around $13 on ebay for the ODB-ethernet cable along with about $55 for a 12 month software unlock code for the E-Sys software which is available online and that was it. There is a very long thread on coding on the forum which will take a while to get through but at the end of the day, it is worth learning how to do it. The reason that you should learn is that if you take your car in for service and they have to update the vehicle software which is not uncommon, you will probably have to pay for the change again as everything will be reset back to the original delivered settings.

Good luck.

Thanks for that. Had a chat today to the salesman I dealt with at Brisbane BMW about it and he's going to get back to me about whether they do it, and if so how much they would charge.

I believe it has to do with the claimed fuel consumption figures. Having the 328i under the magic 7L/100km for tax is a major draw card.

I had this done on delivery and had to sign the waiver and understand the implications. However, it's not like you're disabling the function completely. Who's to say I don't leave it on all the time anyway?

Question is I suppose, with the feature to "simply have your last setting remembered" what it the supposed new fuel consumption figures? As far as I can see it's just BMW covering their arse just in case. Of what I'm not really sure though.

I had no issue with having mine turned off.. I had read up a fair bit about the F30 back in 2012 when I ordered it and it was one thing I didn't want.. so I told the SA I wanted it to remember last setting when I took delivery of it. I just had a sign a work order with NO CHARGE written across it.. told him I wasn't paying $700 for the privilege and that seemed to have worked... a couple months after, I learnt coding and could of done it myself

I don't understand what all the fuss is about, I never use my stop/start function I simply push the OFF button every time I push the Stop/Start Engine button. I don't find that too difficult to do. However mine is a January 2012 build so have they deleted the OFF button from later models?

Button is still there on my 2014 F32. ASS doesn't bother me, if I feel like I'll need to pull away quickly at a junction, I just put it into sport mode.

The dealer should be able to do it for you at a service. I got mine done at delivery. My dealer was Motorline BMW in Brisbane.

As frenzel said, they typically get you to sign some disclaimer about fuel consumption, but they didn't get me to do that. Would be happy to if they asked... maybe it was one of the pages I signed when I took delivery hahaha

My setting is set to remember last setting so if i go to ECO Pro, and I leave ASS on, then it'll be on when you start the car in comfort next time.

You can always just code it yourself to either be completely off (other than in snail mode) or default last setting.

You shouldn't need to pay anything. I'm sure they hook up a cable/computer every service. I think it's about who you know really but for me, im going to get a cable and do a few minor conveniences myself too.
