I can't help but think this will be a tough sell when there is a cheaper 3 series (with a better looking front end IMO). Also, since this will probably be a few grand more than a standard 4 series, you're also creeping up into the 5 series price range as well.
Let's hope there is an amazing interior. |

its nice but I don't see why it is needed over a regular 3, they look so similar.

If this will be the difference from 3 sedan to 4GC it's ok. Because you probably have a better driving and more use. Maybe the differnce will be more, because here the sandard 4 coupé is better equipped than a standard 3 sedan. |

Same interior as 4 Coupe, which is basically the same as the 3 sedan? I can see people spending extra cash on a 6 series GC, but not the 4.
I had my heart set on a M4 GC as my next car when my 335i lease is up, guess that isn't going to happen. My logic was that the 4 series GC would be different enough from the 335i to justify it, I like variation, and getting a M3 is going to remind me too much of the 335i I have now, the M4 GC would have been just different enough. Might have to look into the new Mercedes C63 which will still have a V8 when it comes out in 1-2 years... Without an Audi RS4, the BMW M3's only real competition will be the AMG C63 (if its still called that), I don't think the ATS-V will be good enough (plus I hate the styling). |

Does VW sell the "CC" in the US? It's just a better looking Passat an they sell both cars well. |

Pretty much NOBODY here in Europe would hesitate between an A4 and an A5Sportback if it their price were even.
That coupe ass is so sexy, the sleek silouhette, the roofline |

So that further proves my point. If nobody would hesitate in Europe, I don't see why people would hesitate in the USA. Both cars are of a similar size, have the same engine choices, and both have 4 doors. They are competing for the same market, but one looks better. Unless the price difference is extreme, I don't see how they can both survive. People will simply buy the better car. |

As I see it:
The F30 is BMW’s more utilitarian small sedan. It has more headroom for rear seat (if not all) passengers, and a larger trunk opening so you can get bigger items in/out. The 4GC will be BMW’s sportier (looking at least); slightly higher-end; more-expensive small sedan. The 4GC is probably going to be a popular vehicle, I can see why BMW would build it. |

In Europe this will make more sense. Greater price differentiation, established competitors, more engine options with which to differentiate.... All of which adds up to being able to charge more!
Make sense to me! Seriously the way some people around here complain you'd think BMW has set a complex Math problem for you to solve! This is about offering a more emotional choice to the buyer than just the sedan. This isn't the 70s people! |

Interesting conversation on this, my take is BMW will not build a model where there is no addressable market. Judging from what I see on the roads, Audi has shown that such a market exists and therefore its competitors cannot ignore it, especially BMW.
Whichever way we look at this it's a win-win for all concerned. BMW gets to re-use its investment in the F3x platform to churn out more permutations and thereby recoup their upfront investment (and some). Consumers who want a BMW in this form factor get one and based on the 4 Series it's bound to be great. If the 4GC or 6GC make no sense to you then you're right and BMW has an alternate model for you. If it does, then you're just the target audience BMW hopes to retain (or attract) from Audi/Mercedes. Would I buy one, yes ...
