First 3 Series ordered

Thought I would say hello after lurking for a while.

I've currently got a F20 116 M Sport which is 3 years old and so had an itch to get a new car. I don't really need a big car and so was thinking of another 1 or maybe a 2 Series but with a bigger engine. So after looking at the figures, the 3 Series worked out better due to dealer contributions. Well, that is what they told me anyway!

So I've got a F30 320i M Sport in Estoril Blue and black leather with blue stitching on order.

Then after the box ticking exercise, I ended up with:
  • Pro nav
  • Model designation deletion
  • Sun protection glass
  • Folding mirrors
  • Heated front seats
  • Front & rear PDC
  • Harman Kardon

Plus dare I say it, the auto box

May not be everyones cup of tea, but it works for me

Now the wait begins. Its current status is 1100 (Scheduled I think) with a delivery date of towards the end of June. Doesn't help when I'm one of the most impatient people around

I hope the wait isn't too long!

Enjoy the car when it comes, and then the mods will start!

You ordered without prior consultation with this forum!!!! You complete and utter... er, sensible bloke really!

I do like the blue stitching. Mate of mine has this and when it's his turn to drive to golf I always admire it.

And why the sheepish confession to auto - probably the best auto on the market!

End June.... ffs that's gonna be painful!

Don't apologise for the auto box. It's brilliant.

Nice spec

Welcome to the forum lurker

Lovely car coming in the best colour

As others have said, nothing wrong with auto. Just make sure you get the paddles with it.

Welcome to the F30 forum!

Your build is a similar spec to my car. I'm sure you will be pleased when it arrives.

Nice, you'll love her.

As already said, the auto box is fantastic! Did you go sports auto? I was an auto hater, but my engine spec choice was auto only. So, I swallowed it and was converted!

Blue stitching is a subtle but nice lift to the interior.

Auto box is the way forward.

Did the m-Sport plus pack not suit? It has the sun protection glass, Harmon Kardon etc. And I thought offered better value?

Petrol engines are pushing out order lead times further than would normally be expected ATM. BMW aren't geared up for the current uptake.

I didn't know the forum existed until after I placed the order Possibly good for my bank balance when ordering but someone has already mentioned the word "mods"

(and in reply to everyone else) I've seen a few posts where people say it needs to be manual as you then have more control etc. and being new, didn't know what side of the fence most people sit on.

Mind you, I had a 216d Grand Tourer as a courtesy car the other week and it was an auto. Either the kick down was broken or the power wasn't there. Oh, plus it decided to do an emergency stop for me out of the blue when I was already breaking with plenty of room Must have given the driver behind a brown trouser moment!

Yep, its the sports auto. I used to have manuals but then two cars ago I got an Audi A3 2.0 S Line Black Edition and didn't have a choice over it being an auto as it was already built and what with a start-stop commute, it was just so easy and I've gone auto since.

I see what your saying but it got to a point where I had to stop spending as I've pushed the budget quite a bit anyway. If you take into account the cost of HK and SPG, you do get quite a lot for the extra £1K and while £1K may not sound much to some, it is for me on top of what I'm paying. Its also on PCP so the monthly are where I'm comfortable and I don't want to start having a hefty deposit.

I know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. There isn't anyway of speeding things up are there?

The dealership did say that if I was ordering a diesel, it would have been a lot sooner.

However as I do less that 5000 miles a year including commuting, a diesel wouldn't suite unless I wanted to go through a few DPFs

i red somewhere here that bmw adjusted dpf on newer cars so it can trigger regeneration at lower speed journeys

but anyway kudos for your order

Welcome Elrond.

Pretty new here myself as well. The natives seem generally friendly so far, only a few suspicious characters cruising about

It was probably fortunate that you ordered before introducing yourself here, otherwise it could have become very expensive for you! Don't worry about the Auto box, you are definitely in the majority of the ZF worshippers here. Us manual Luddites are an endangered species

Did you consider the full black panel display and servotronic steering options?

Servotronic was only an extra £85 when I ordered mine and is standard on the 6-pots so I figured it would be a worthy addition to a 320i.

With the benefit of hindsight adjustable lumbar supports would have been useful to me, they were standard on my previous three cars and I miss them sometimes.

Same here I miss the lumbar support can't believe it's not standard on a 335d given it's 40k + list price

Yes and yes.

When I said Pro nav, that is through the professional media package so I'm getting the full black panel display through that.

I also added servotronic steering (forgot it in my first post). My current car has it but as I have no idea if I will notice a difference or not, I thought I would add it for the sake of £85.

I also went for split folding rear seats. As it is the only car I have use of, I had this thought in the back of my mind that on the rare occasion I fold the rear seats down in my current car, sods law will say that I will need to fold them down if I don't get them.

Lifted it today without the button pressed... The noise was upsetting to me; but, 7 clicks.

I don't think it's any different to my last F30. But, I do pull it on quite hard. It's hilly in Cumbria.
