Woodcliff Lake, NJ – May 1, 2014… The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported April sales of 29,592 vehicles, an increase of 2.0 percent from the 29,011 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, the BMW Group (BMW and MINI combined) is up 2.5 percent on sales of 110,626 in the first four months of 2014 compared to 107,968 in the same period in 2013.

BMW Brand Sales

Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 8.5 percent in April for a total of 25,202 compared to 23,225 vehicles sold in April, 2013. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 10.7 percent on sales of 97,579 compared to 88,127 sold in the first four months of 2013.

“April started and ended strong, which is not typical with spring break, holidays, and taxes due during the month,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The increasing momentum including launch of new diesel models in the X3 and 7 Series and the first sales this month of the born-electric BMW i3 gives us considerable optimism for May and June.”

In April, best performing vehicles included the 2 Series, up 16.1 percent to 727 units; the 3/4 Series, up 18.9 percent to 9,794 units; the X3 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), up 85.2 percent to 3,544 units; and the X5 SAV, up 27.6 percent to 4,393 units.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

In April, sales of BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned) increased 14.4 percent to 16,234 vehicles compared to 14,194 sold in April, 2013. Year-to-date, BMW used vehicles (including certified pre-owned) are up 13.7 percent on sales of 64,634 compared to 56,869 sold in the first four months of 2013.

MINI Brand Sales

For April, MINI USA reported 4,390 automobiles, a decrease of 24.1 percent from the 5,786 automobiles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA reported a total of 13,047 automobiles, a decrease of 34.2 percent from the 19,841 automobiles sold in the first four months of 2013.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles – best April ever

In April, MINI used automobiles (including MINI NEXT certified pre-owned) reported sales of 2,157 automobiles, an increase of 31.8 percent from the 1,637 automobiles sold in April, 2013. Year-to-date, MINI used automobiles (including MINI NEXT certified pre-owned) reported sales of 8,133 automobiles, an increase of 25.5 percent from the 6,483 automobiles sold in the same four months of 2013.

3 and 4 series, as always, carrying the brand. Wonder if they'll soon begin tracking these separately.

As for the Mini, 2014 was a refresh year and the mini convertible won't get that refresh until next year, which is why my wife is waiting before purchasing. Wonder how many others are waiting -- which could be slowing down sales.

Waiting on the new Clubman, or at least to see if it's a five door version of the hardtop this time. The flop of the Coupe, Roadster and Paceman should help cut down on the absurd models for the F series cars, hopefully.

Hopefully the sales of the Z4 indicate to BMW that they need to return to the Z3 model quickly, not try to take on the Boxster as directly as they've tried with the E89.

Wow, that surprises me that the 5 series is down so much YTD, especially with the LCI.

18.9 % increase on 3/4 series is the crush of M car Sales

Would like to see the breakout for the M model which I'm sure is a new record

So ends the 6 series anomaly last month where its sales were thru the roof for some odd reason..

And is the new mini out? or is it low because the old model is about to be gone?

I'm still amazed they still bother with the z4
We're talking 1500 sales a year, roughly?

Not sure why the 5er would be struggling this year, fresh off the LCI. thoughts?

I mean the z4 does cost like a billion dollars...

Also, apparently x6 sales are so high it warrants 2 more versions x4 and x2... so BMW should keep the z4 around. Its one of their few unique vehicles left.

Totally agreed, but aren't they replacing it with the joint venture car?

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

So it seems? All I know is BMW and Toyota are joining forces on a sports car. Would make sense to offset development costs on lower volume vehicle.

Perhaps a lot of others have had the same impression of the basic 5 series that I did. I received one as a loaner about a year back (was driving an M3 at the time). I just found it big and unengaging. Sure, I was coming from a 3 series and an M3 at that, but I was really unimpressed. I ended up buying an M5 anyway (I am an M car freak) and absolutely love it. Best M car yet for me...the power and suspension brilliantly overcome the size and weight of the car...but that's an M5. One should not have to go to an M5 or 550 etc to enjoy the essential merits of a car or a series. That's why I am hoping that BMW does not make the next 5 series even bigger. It is so not necessary. Those were just my impressions and maybe that's part of it.

the F10 is an utter BORE of a car. Why buy an F10 when I can buy an equally disengaged GS350 but get better reliability?
