Thinking whether it's worth trying to source an Alpine white wing which I can fit then just have the door sprayed out by ChipsAway or the like.

But I'm told even if I source a white wing the colour might not exactly match so not sure, plus I don't want to drive it round for too long looking a mess it's depressing!

I'm sure I saw a table somewhere that highlighted how PNCB and each time you claim it slides down so you lose some (but not all) of your NCB.

So you end up paying extra on your premium (even though you may never claim) and then lose some NCB if you do claim anyway.

Just personal preference. I guess any savings I'll have made over 15 years I'll have to fork out on repairs now!

Swings and roundabouts.
Bad luck with the accident, presume there was CCTV around that might have caught the number plate of the idiot who did the damage?

In terms of protected NCB, I too have always thought it a waste of money. Come renewal time your existing insurer can just increase the gross premium so, although they're notionally still giving you full no claims, the discount's being applied to a higher starting figure so you still end-up paying more.

If you then think to hell with that I'll go to someone else they'll ask whether you've had an accident in the last 5 years and if so was the cost recovered; answer that honestly (which you must if you don't want to risk your cover being invalid) and they probably won't be giving you a full no claims discount either.

Therefore, protected no-claims is pretty pointless IMO!

The quote is indeed quite reasonable.

Sorry about the damage, the other day while I was sat in my car and a lady open her door (67 reg Hyundai) into mine and was ready to leave the scene without so much an apology.

That quote doesn't look too bad for the damage and once you remove the Very Avoidable Tax it becomes even more affordable. Certainly not worth an insurance claim.

Phoned me back within the hour & apologised for his language (lol) - told him if it was my car the expletives wouldn’t stop

What is it with these absolute w@nkers that they hit someone’s car & drive-off without taking responsibility (he couldnt drive it as rear quarter pushed onto the wheel). Makes my blood boil

Can anyone tell me whether the F32 F33 and F36 front wings are the same please.

I've seen some that suggest they're the same and others not?

Just read this post and was surprised to see the amount of people who repair at BMW. That’s the last place I would ever think of taking my car for a body repair job but then I don’t want to pay their prices. I always go to a reputable body shop, much much cheaper and some of them are damn artists at what they do. When I first saw your pictures I thought around the £600 mark so your quote isn’t far off. Maybe i’ve just had too many cars to repair in the past!

As for protected no claims, I always keep it but if you claim be prepared for the hidden cost they don’t tell you about, they jack up your premium cause you’ve had a claim. Always get you somehow..

I agree with that. Mine went to a trusted body repair shop. These guys are absolute perfectionists and not pushed for time or working for bonuses for amount of jobs completed.

What the hell do they use to stick on those little M wing badges?!! You can drive a car at them and they don't come off.

I personally would be looking to go to a independent body shop that has been recommended. As others have said some are artists and take great pride in what they do. I've not heard such praise for BMW bodyshops.

I just had a bumper repaired by an independent, they did a superb job, £250 inc vat for removal/repair/respray/refit. I hate to think what it would have cost me at BMW.

Looking at that I would say you £800 ish quote is about right for a top notch body shop. I hope you get it sorted and you can't even see it.

nah wont be 2.5 grand, my e92 was badly damaged similar to yours but MUCH worse, alloy repainted, bumper wing front wing, door, door sill, and rear quarter all had to be done. cost me 3 grand with very reputable professional sprayer not a back street gang. perfect job (and im fussy)...heres the pic of the damage that was done. i was so happy with the repair they did great job, dont use bmw they over price and arent better than a specialist bodyshop, or they put the work out anyway. If you have to pay over 3 grand for that fairly light damage you have had pants pulled down lol.

Why'd it need a new door?

Think they just felt easy to put a door skin on it its not full door just a re skin, so cheaper than whole thing, the rear quart was hard as you dont want it fiull of filler but lot of work to cut whole section out, they did amazing job pulling out main dent and then finishing to smooth out imperfections, after it was spot on you couldnt see any imperfection in shape. Id use these guys again was recommended to me by a mate who collects rare cars and bmws. Always used them. Hard finding a good place nowadays. recently i had a tiny inch scratch on my 435 bumper done, stupidly used some other guys as cheap, and they had runs in clear coat and in light you could see the rubbing down, and to top it off the scraped nearly a third of my mint alloy, i was FUMINGGGGGGG. learnt my lesson.

What chance have you got with people like this on the roads!? This is in a parent and child bay as well so there's plenty of room to park properly

Update:

I've managed to source an Alpine White wing cheap which I'm going to collect and fit myself. I'm aware that the paint might not entirely match but even if I have to get it sprayed the cost of wing plus fitting it myself will have saved money.

If the paint matches I'll be on to a winner as I can just get the door done.

we'll see...
