New Summer set up - Tire & TPMS advice

Hey all,

So I made the plunge and replaced my stock conti RFTS with winter tires, Michelin X-ICE Xi3's & wow, totally converted, never had dedicate winter tires before, what a difference. I also used the stock TPMS's on the winter set up.

So now i'm looking for a summer set up, i've decided on the wheels, 19x8.5 +30. But need advice on both the tire choice and TPMS.

Tire selections are: (Square set up - 245/40/19)

Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Conti ExtremeContact Sport

Finally, i see Tirerack also sells TMPS's, does anyone have any experience with these? are they reliable, or would everyone recommend paying the extra for OEM. ($224 - Tirerack, $356 - OEM)

Many thanks in advance for any advice or input! God tires are so subjective, and the reviews online are great, but it's always amazing to hear input from folks on this forum, with the same cars!

Cheers!

It's hard to sort through the TPMS parts as they change their mind every 6 months.
Look at your valvestem and see if it looks like either of these...

What I did .. was call the dealer .. acting like I was going to stop in and buy them (I would _never spend any money at a dealer aside from buying the car) .. and gave them the last 7 of the VIN and get the part #. The first guy was a dick and wouldn't give the part #. So, called another place and she was cool.

In my case the part number was 36106856209, which they changed the part number in May (just the number .. same unit) to 36106881890.

Then I googled that part number and found the lowest price. oembimmerparts.com had the best deal and I did get the correct ones in the mail. The part in question was $56 a couple months ago .. the dealer wanted $98. I found them for $66 something.. I dunno about tirerack but I would imagine they sell the same "OEM" unit just without the BMW price gouging. Still almost a complete waste of money. I know what my tire pressures are thank you very much computer...

I can't help you with fitment of 19s as I think they are too big for the car.

Tire Rack is the way to go. Just get wheels, tires and TPMS package from them if they have the wheels you want. I've gotten my winter wheel/tire packages from them for the past 10+ years and the TPMS they use is a perfect match to the E46, E90 or F30 that I ordered for.

As long as you're looking at the Max Performance summer tires, skip the Michelin Pilot Super Sport and go with the new Michelin PS4S that supercedes it and save a little money. These are the tires I'm getting next month for my F30 340i 19" factory staggered setup when I remove my winter wheels for spring/summer/fall. I had the Michelin PSS on an E46 and E90 M3 and great tire, but the PS4S is newer/better.

BTW, bought my winter wheel/tire/tpms pkg from tirerack.com in December 2016 for my 2017 F30 and listed TPMS on the order is: 433MHZ TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR, 4 x $54.00 = $216.00. What matters is getting the right frequency, 433Mhz in this case. You may also want to check out this thread http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=726432

Research at and talk with Tirerack to determine what tire/wheel package you want. They will know which TPMS to provide. With that info, you can shop around to see if you can get better pricing given the full package. Normally, I find Tirerack hard to beat.

Amazon has them

I picked up some m442 19'' wheel/tire takeoffs from a 440i, and I will need to switch in the Huf type for my 1/2014 built 328. Tirerack has the part number, so I did a search. Came back with a seller on AMZ with 4 Mobiletron sensors for $106. Should get here next week. 2Y warranty, and if they don't work out, Ill just transfer the ones from my stock 17s. In any event, I should have a set of VDO sensors to sell here shortly...

Bridgestone S-04 are good tires that perform well and are less than the MPSS or MPS4 equivs.

442 Style wheels look great - summer or winter. Nice choice.
