Winter Tyres UK - Just rears better than nothing?
Hi all,
Left it a little late in finding winter tyres, had a bad winter with the previous A5, so determined to be a bit better prepared for snow in the 435. Sizes are: 225/40R19 255/35R19 Found plenty of good priced rears, but having a nightmare finding any fronts that aren't silly money. Thoughts on going with just winter on rear tyres versus nothing? Lots of conflicting reviews online on this. These will be run on stock wheels, as want this to cost as little as possible. Tyres are: Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme Winter Tyres 255/35 R19 96W. My summer rear tyres are looking a little low, will get that fixed in Spring. Thanks from sunny Yorkshire

Better than nothing, but it won't help steering or braking...
Curious, as narrower tires are usually cheaper. Many of us go with a square setup with the fronts deciding the size - I have a set of 4 225/45R18 on my E90 for instance. |

235/40-19 square or 245/40-19 square are other options.

Thanks for replies all!
Would 245 40-19 not put out my speedometer? As the rear are 35? secondly someone mentioned 235 front and read, would that not be too narrow for my rear tyres? Sorry for the basic questions!

I am running 235/45/18 on 18x8.5 rims. It actually makes the speedo more accurate as BMW reads 3mph faster. They are not stretched at all. Sit pretty square.
