Winter Wheel Setup?
I am beginning to look for a new winter tire setup.
Looking for recommended black “salt resistant” high quality winter 18” rims? What would be the best width and offset for a near flush stance? I have the blue m Performance brakes and x Drive. Much Appreciated!

size wise, keep it simple 18x8 or 8.5,+35ish on 225 or 235/45/18 size tires. i haven't heard any company talk about their finishes being salt resistant. powdercoat is fairly durable but with salt i'd recommend a paint coating and cleaning them regularly(i know this is not easy to do when it's freezing out). a simpler face design would be easier to clean, obviously Last edited by alohasurftoad; 10-27-2017 at 01:18 AM.. |

I chose 225/45 18x8 ET35 square, narrow tire better for snow.

I just use the stock 400M 18" wheels that came with my car for winter setup
Purchased 19" 437M wheels for my summer setup

I was looking for a winter setup for the 340 and decided to go with those in 18X8 / 35 with Nokian R2 225/45R18 shoes. They are winter approved and warranty is 2 years so no worries here. Fitment should be close to flush; but will need to confirm in a month or so when I put them on.
Not mounted yet so dont have a picture on the car for now, but it should look something similar to this : (328d shown)

I just got these on yesterday, Sport Edition P3 18x8. Not black but I prefer the gunmetal look.

I've been using Apex EC-7 18x8.5et35 w/Pilot Alpin PA4 245/45 with Dinan Springs, I have had no issue with rubbing, and was easily able to handle 3-5" of snow/slush last winter on my commute from Maryland to Connecticut for my grandmothers birthday. Additionally wet and dry traction has been great with these tires.

Rial x10 18x8 wheels in 30 mm offset, Pirelli sottozero 3 MOE run-flats 225/45-18 all around.
Should clear the big blues, but unfortunately still waiting for the car |

Plenty of clearance, you need a minimum of 35 offset with 18s and 30 is way more than enough.

Here are Rial 10's 17" wheels with Continental Viking 7 235/50-17 tires. They are nice and beefy. I got the size up from 225/50-17 which is the stock size to 235/50-17. I wanted to eliminate cracked rims which I have experienced with 45 and 40 series sidewalls. I travel tough roads in winter and thin sidewalls are just not worth the risk to me.

Do you like the tires? They were available in the 18" size I needed, but being new I didn't want to take the risk. I seldom see snow, but ice, sleet, rain, and sub-freezing are not uncommon.

I love these Continental Viking 7 tires. https://www.continental-tires.com/ca...ikingcontact-7
They are quiet, run smooth and comfortable. I am comparing them to Michelin Ice X tires that were the previous benchmark. Time will tell on ice and snow but these might be a smidge better as they are newer. Incremental improvement with each new model is what you are seeing with all car tires now. |
