NBT different on F30 and F80(M3)

Hi all,

I have a F30 built in Jan 14 my mate just bought a M3 built in May 14. I was playing around with his NBT Nava and noticed small little differences for example, when you look to the right of a menu it usually has a circle with a + which indicates options or split screen, on his it has a nice icon with a cog and a +.

I know its something small but if its there the SW seems different I checked my SW is up to date according to the web site.

I haven't checked his SW ver vs mine but thought I would ask all you lovely folk first!

When you buy an "M" series... you get Fine wine and fresh cheese... when you buy the F30, you get boxed wine (that taste good) and cheese that is about to expire...

Your Nav needs a firmware upgrade. Seems that graphic change to the cog icon happened with the Spring 2014 changes, so probably March production.

So, if you get the G or H revision of the Nav firmware you'll have the same as your friends M3. That said, BMW does create some unique differences in the iDrive interface for different model lines. This cog graphic is not one of them as my F30 has it (I have H firmware).

Thank you @Claykin - So I have downloaded all the BIN files and put them on a FAT32 USB drive. I then put it in the USB in the Arm rest. I go to:
Settings>Software>Update Software - However it says there is no update.

Is the firmware for the device the one on www.bmw.com/update cause that's the one(s) I am trying to use.

Thank you once again!

Gear with the caption "Options" is actually on new HU_NBT firmware. Mine was flashed to 52.1 and I have the same thing you speak of.

Also, if you go to navigation, it will always take you to the menu list instead of directly into the map.

If you updated your HU_NBT, it would behave the exact same way.

The question is how do I get that firmware, dealer keeps saying there are now updates...

You can flash HU_NBT with E-sys if you have the full psdzdata dataset. I wouldn't recommend doing this since your HU_NBT is factory installed and the new firmware level will not match what BMW has on their records.

Easiest way is probably to make up a problem that's intermittent and see if they offer it to you.

You can probably just say that your head unit is restarting a lot randomly when you go to a certain part of the menu.

I believe you need 53.0 or higher to get the new gear icon.

Agreed. If you wish to try upgrading your I-Step level on your own I recommend you visit the coding thread in this forum and ask questions.

I'm on 52.1 and I have it so it's probably 52.0 and up.

@Aritaurus, did you flash the NBT yourself or get the dealer to do so?

Vithy helped me do it. There's no way I can go to the dealer since mine is retrofitted lol
