comfort access to open the trunk

Can anyone tell me how to get this damn thing to work 100% of the time. My salesman said the best way is to get center with the BMW emblem and then punt your foot under the rear bumper. It worked good for him and me at the dealership but now I can only get it to work every once and a while and find I get better results by just pushing the trunk release button by the hood release.

It works like a charm if you put your foot under the bumper and then pull it straight back again, like a short kick in the air. If you leave the foot under the bumper it is not enough for the sensor to react.

I was being sarcastic. I applaud YOU for reading the manual so that you were able to definitively answer the question. I'm poking fun at everyone else who couldn't figure it out because they didn't read it.

Seems like if I do it closer to left side of car by tailpipes it works better. It also seems to react better to quick motion (kick in and out), then a slower motion...

I seem to have the best success with a circular motion with my foot horizontally like trying to drag/kick something from under the car.

Most of the time now I just reach under the lip of the trunk and open it that way - something I only discovered recently. duh!

Foot on the left between the emblem and exhaust tip. Swing your foot forward and pull it back. I believe The sensor is close to the edge of the bumper.

I too had trouble on my F10 until I learned the trick, and it works every time (yes, fool proof). The trick is to retract the foot with a quick and steady motion. So basically a quick kick and an even faster retraction of the foot straight out (no circular motions etc.). try it and it will work every time

I agree. "It works 60% of the time every time." Sorry I couldn't resist. (Anchorman, anyone?)

I agree that it does work every time. However, I have noticed that immediately after retracting the foot, one should also step away from the opening arc of the trunk lid. BMW apparently has not figured out a way for the trunk lid on the F30 to open fairly slowly using that method. My trunk lid flies open very quickly and since it's extremely heavy, if someone stands too close to it, they are liable to get whacked on the face quite severely. I would think that payment for injuries caused by the lack of common sense in the design of their products should be included in the purchase agreement.

I'd like to see Mr Bean trying to use this feature and getting knocked out by the trunk opening.

I find that I have to stand about a step back further from the bumper than I instinctively want to. If you can reach the handle easily you are too close. Pretend you have an armload of groceries between you and the car. Otherwise, all the "quick retraction" comments are on the mark.

Oh, and it loves to not work when you are showing it off. Reminds me of that singing frog cartoon.
