I also could not get this to work, and after looking like an idiot for days kicking the back of my car, finally figured it out. The secret is to kick in, in an upward motion, and then out quickly. Works every time. Its the upward motion that will open the boot. Keep on trying.

I'll have to try this again, I've just been using the pressure pad under the lid.

I kept trying dead center, so I'll try the to the left trick.

I don't know what the secret is but so far, the only time I couldn't get it to work was when I'd left the keys inside and was kicking in and out like some sort of demented can-can dancer

It's normally a steady kick in and out in between the badge and where the model designation would be.

I had considered crawling under the car to see where the sensor is. I think I will.

For me its a kick right under the Badge with the foot pointed slightly upward and almost touching the bumper from behind. Works every time.

A voice activated command would have been nicer "Car open trunk", unless they used Siri and you'd get the reply "I don't understand chunk".

Does anyone else think this is completely ridiculous? We have to pretend-kick the car to get it to recognize the key is nearby. Can you imagine holding groceries furiously kicking the air like Chuck Norris in a vain attempt to get the trunk to open? Meanwhile, everyone in the vicinity is shaking their heads and getting into the Audi or MB and thinking, "Good lord, BMW drivers are morons".

Next thing they'll have us do a Judo Chop to open the hood.

I think the point of it is that you don't look ridiculous doing what you are describing. By following what I suggested, my trunk has opened immideately every single time

It could end up being quicker to put your groceries down and use the fob button

if you need a video tutorial, just watch Ford's new Escape advertisement; it has the same feature and they show how its done.

well this morning when I got in the car, shut the door and plugged my iphone in the USB port.......then....the trunk popped open.... and no the FOB was not in my pocket and accidently pushed, it was in the cupholder. I think Im going to call her Christine from now on and let her choose when I can get in the trunk or not.

When I got the car I was never able to do it. I tried faster and faster kicks. no luck.
Then I went under the car to see where the sensor is located. There is absolutely nothing under the bumper. What that means is that the sensor is behind the bumper (I couldn`t see it just a guess.) I stood and slowly push my feet under the bumper all the way down to pass the bumper. Booom it worked. Closed the trunk tried again and again every time it worked. I never missed one until now.

It is nothing to the with the speed. Even it works when you do it slowly. The trick is to push you feet forward enough.
You don`t need to be at the center exactly but the key needs to be close enough. I will try to record a video this weekend.

I use this feature at least twice a week (going to and from airport) and it works every time as advertised/directed.
