Question

Hey guys.

Basically, I'm looking to see if I have a boost leak. The engine seized on me about six months ago and I got the car back about two months ago. After I got the new engine, I threw a CTS turbo intake on it which in return lets me hear the turbo a lot more. With this, I now realize that the turbo seems to cut out and get a lot quieter at about 3000 RPMs in 2nd gear and above. Unfortunately, I’m not a mechanic, so I’m not too sure how the turbo works in f30. Does it not work as hard in higher rpm’s other than 1st? I don’t notice any lack of performance.

Here is a link to a video showing an example: https://youtube.com/shorts/b7ufJ8AG3...piurqeakzExIN6

Let me know what you guys think. Thank you

No resonator
Valvetronic exhaust
Was tuned by DINAN in 2014 but the tune was removed at some point when it was sold to its previous owner

I’m brand new to the platform so take what I say with a grain of salt, but really the only factors that would affect turbo load will be atmospheric pressure, boost pressure and engine rpms. Gearing shouldn’t directly affect it at all. That said, your tune could be targeting a different boost pressure in first than in the following gears. From what I understand, these cars are tuned around torque targets and I’d bet it’s targeting a different load for first. I think if psi is what we’re watching in your video that lines up.

What sensor is that gauge displaying? You really need a datalog: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1732327

If that sensor is CP MAP sensor you could just be picking up the spike when the throttle closes

Hey bro, been there. I’m sorry. I know how much it sucks. The cause of my issue was a failed oil pump causing my engine to be starved of oil and spun my rod bearings which caused my motor to seize.

I wish you the best of luck with this whole situation!

It’s displaying boost pressure. Plus I can’t log the car bc I can’t tune it. It’s under warranty

I’m on a stock tune. I can’t tune it yet because I’m still under warranty

Yea what happens is when you change OFHG it can starve ur engine of oil. So crazy that u take ur car in for maintenance and can never get it back lol. I’m trying to figure out if I can rebuild rather than get a new engine. Let me know if you have any advice😂

I had purchased an aftermarket warranty through CarShield. After about 3 months of back and fourth they would up covering about 17k of a 23k engine replacement through BMW. Therefor, I now have a 2 mile unlimited mile warranty on anything they replaced.

I know that doesn’t really help your situation but that’s what I did.

Maybe try to find a cheaper motor online with less miles? You could look on eBay or a website like Ghassan (although don’t use Ghassan, I’ve heard bad things). They’ll give you a huge discount if you send them your old motor too.

Best of luck my man.

You can log without tuning. There are various apps that you can log with, even basic apps that have nothing to do with tuning platform like MHD/BM3. MHD also sells the 'monitoring module' separate from tunes that allows you to log and display data realtime.

Also, there are two boost pressure sensors, which is what i was asking. On in the CP and one on the intake manifold. The CP sensor can get boost spikes because its pre-throttle.
