Would you pay this price?
Hey guys, my names alvin and im a new member here in this forum as i recently ordered a bmw and hoping to become an owner of one of these awesome vehicles.
Well the problem is i cant decide if this is a good deal or not as i cant seem to build a 2014 model. So im basing the quote i received to the 2013 model year. And i need some insight from others who have ordered a 2014. I hear the 2014 price went up about 600$. So heres my build. I got a 328i : Sport line Dynamic handling package Lighting package 6 speed manual:no cost Black interior:no cost I was quoted 43457 after tax and fees for the 2014. Out the door price. Msrp for the 2013 is 42175 and invoice of 39010. These numbers are before tax. Since i cant find out the invoice of the 2014, since dealer did not want to tell me, im stuck on figuring out if this is a good or bad deal. What do you guys think? I do not want to overpay for a car again. Any insight will be great. |

You are going to need to break out the numbers further and compare apples to apples, pre tax msrp and or pre tax Invoice to pre tax deal you are being offered. You are asking members to do the heavy lifting. Find out the invoice price and if you are within $500 its a good deal.

Yea I would negotiate or go to a different dealer. Your jot getting a great deal on that you should be able to get something about 5% off Msrp at least cause the dealer makes 7% profit if they sell at Msrp before any dealer incentives, at least mine does

So even after taxes and other fees the final price should still be 500 over invoice?
Also wheres a good website that could help me build a 2014 and show me msrp and invoice prices? Currently i only use cars.com but they only have the 2013 available. |

Taxes depend on the state. Fees depend on the dealer. Your dealer should ONLY be negotiating the selling price of the vehicle. They might "waive" a fee if it's minor, though. We aren't entirely sure on the costs of the 2014's packages and options, aside from knowing a base vehicle will be a few hundred more than a 2013 base model. But it will unlikely be different, so using a 2013 as a guesstimate is a good starting point. |

Ok i did some calcalations based on another thread on this forum saying the 2014 price went up by 600$ so if the invoice of the 2013 is 39010+600$ price change makes 396010x4.712% hawaii tax makes 41476+registration fee roughly 400 makes 41876+195 doc fee makes 42071. If i take this number and subtract it to the quote i receive: 42071-43457=1387. So thats the profit they are getting with this purchase. Also i do not know if this dealer can do 500 over invoice as he said why would he buy a car and sell to me for only 500 profit. Also this is the only dealership in hawaii so either i try to lower the price or not buy the car. I wish there was another dealer i can go to so i can get the best price.
Edit: i forgot mineral gray is an additional 550 option. So i recalcalated everything and the profit he makes is roughly 860$. I think thats pretty fair. Last edited by Zingaling18; 06-11-2013 at 08:26 PM.. |

BMW of Honolulu is tough to buy from. Since they are the only dealer here, they are a monopoly and don't have much incentive to give good deals.
Do you happen to be in the military? If so, you can get one for a couple thousand under invoice. I just went in yesterday to see if they can match what I am getting, and the manager said they can't even come close to it. If you're not military, the only other possibility you have is to call a dealer in the states and see if you can purchase through them, and ship it directly to Hawaii. You might be able to negotiate something and save a few hundred bucks. |

Dam thats a bummer. And im not in the military so thats not gonna work. If im only gonna save a few hundred then i rather not make a call to dealerships in other states. Too much hassle. Im gonna just offer him 500-1000 less than he quoted me and see if he'll do it or not. But if my calcalations are about right hes selling it to me for 40900 before taxes and fees.

Of they are the only game in town then don't go by the deals on here where there are 5 or more dealers competing for a sale. It's not a horrible deal I would do it if that's the only game in town

Did you order a 2014 or 2013? If so how much more was it compared to a 2013 base invoice price? Im just curious to see how much more rhe 2014s went up by. Maybe i can make a better guesstimate if i can find out. A 2013 of the same build as mine would be 39560 invoice. If the 2014 actually went up 600$ than it would be 40160 invoice for a 2014. If i took the price dealer offered me and subtracted tax and other fees it comes out to about 40900. Which is about a 800 price difference from the guesstimated 40160 invoice i made on the 2014. Based on my state taxes that is.

Use the MSRP shown in the 2014 pricing guide found in the sticky, and then take 92% of the base car price, and 91% of each of your options, and this will get you very, very close to invoice

The price you noted, OP, seems a good deal higher than what I would be willing to pay for the car you've noted.

Ok so i recalcalated every based on what Davinaii posted. The invoice is 39483.25. So the dealer is making 1490$ profit. Which seems high. Mow i know i need to lower it to atleast 42800, which is 850$ profit. Which is fair. thanks all for the help. Much appreciated

Again all depends on if the dealer will do it. I have 5 dealers within 50 miles of me. If I want the car and don't like the price I walk. If he wants the car he has to go to this dealer. I would try and highlight that the dealer is making x amount of profit (not including incentives) and you think this is a fair deal. If they say no you buy it if you really want it or play hardball if you can wait
