BMW RFT Survey
Just received and completed a survey from BMW specifically asking about Run Flat Tires being fitted to new cars.
Would I prefer a car with: RFT Spare Tire Flat Mobility kit and why Why don't I like RFT and so on. I gave them the business! Took forever but they may be paying attention to our complaints... |

I'd go spare tire. I need the extra weight in the back of the car to counter the added front weight of xdrive and for others the inline 6

I'm actually that 1 person that likes the run flat tires now. The new ones between the P Zeros I had on my 435 and the S001s on my current 335 are great.
Now the ones on my old E92 were awful.

Every car should have a spare tire. It is BS that BMW makes you go through the huge hassle of having to get your car towed and then sit at a shop until they open to get your tire fixed. I know a lot of people can't figure out how to change a tire or they just don't want to but at least give the tow company the option to put a spare on when they come out to get you home and to a shop with out all the extra hassle.

Seems to me the survey is about 15-years late.
To be fair, the current RFT is nothing like the problem it used to be. I took them off my E91 as the car just didn't work with them fitted. Run them on my current F11, no real issues. I'm sure the 'G' models will convince many more drivers they are even less of an issue. |

I'd prefer a spare, but unless BMW go back to making the wheel well big enough to take a full sized wheel, (the one you have to put in there when you use the spare), anything less isn't the full answer.
As an example, take the latest G30 with its space saver kit option. Takes away capacity from the trunk, plus where do you put the full sized wheel if you have a full trunk, already compromised with the space saver false floor? |

I do have a repair kit and pump on board all the time, and when I venture on a long trip I put a temporary spare in the trunk. As for the ride and handling, my bimmer on RFT is better than any other car I've ever owned shod with regular rubber, usually high end Michelin. Maybe it could be improved upon, but I'm not going to give up the convenience of an RFT when there's nothing about them that bothers me. |

I like my RFTs, sure a little more road noise perhaps (but that has improved) and I go to the track maybe 1-2 times in the life of each car for some higher level driver education but that's it.
On the flipside, saved my butt numerous times. Got about 3 nails across 2 tires in the space of 3 months (also why I always get tire and rim protection) with all the construction going on in Vancouver. Allowed me to keep all my engagements and get it fixed when I had time to go into the dealer. |

P Zero RFT tires are better, at least in my humble opinion, than Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT tires. I still prefer the convenience of run flat tires.
