Feedback on the use of Voice Control

Hi all, looking for feedback from you on the use of the voice control function. How well it works, tips & tricks, Was it worth the $$, what you would like it to do that it does not.

Well, its not a stand alone option, it comes with extended connectivity. Which in my opinion is probably worth having just by itself. The voice recognition stuff is a bonus (albeit quite a good one). So yes, worth the $$$. I'd be optioning it even if I didn't want the VR.

Your profile says you have a F30 328i at the moment, did you not order it and regret it, order it and wonder how to use it, or are you considering ordering it and haven't got your car yet? I'll know how to better answer your question if I know where you're at.

Ok, thought it was 1 option. The BMW configurator seems to list it as 1 option??

I really like the voice control, especially after the new laws that came in to effect in NSW last week relating to mobile phone use. The car does a really good job of interpreting what you say and it doesn't need to learn your voice like some other systems on the market. It takes a little getting used to all of the commands but realistically, if you simply read off an option on the screen, it should work.

My only complaints are that I have had a lot of trouble getting it to understand the street name "Station Street", when I say that it tends to switch my radio to preset 4. It's annoying because Station Street is a relatively common street name. Additionally it can be a little odd how the car chooses to read names back to you...

Two recent examples include Rosebery, which the car read back as ross-eh-berry, and Homebush, which the car interpreted as hom-E-bush. I guess that's what you get when germans try to interpret English words. Our cars are probably just as annoying to them :P

Thank you all for the feedback so far. Perhapsna little background on whynI ask to give it some more context..... When test driving recently I was very impressed with the Mercedes system. It worked flawlessly and was very intuitive to use, so after that everything else was very ordinary, so the test drive of the Bemmer did not score high on that point. Then when it came to purchase time I chose to look at what stock was immediately available rather than wait for a spec order. So with that, my mineral white 328 sport was a great choice but did not have extended connectivity, but that did not concern me at all. Now my thoughts have turned to 'if I could add it now, would I?', hence my question before researching further if it is possible.

PS. For those in Bris, I have a coding cable and s'ware setup arriving soon for anyone interested in coding.

I got a shielded cable and the latest software with self install on a flash drive being shipped from April1 on Bimmerpost. Very helpful and smart guy. According to USPS it is in country now so should have it early next week. Took 10 working days from the date of my paypal deposit.

Sounds pretty good. I ended up buying a temporary RapidShare account just to download it, otherwise it would take about a week I think. Data files were about 700mb × 24. Hopefully the cable will show up soon. On the list is ASS, rear DRLs, legal disclaimer and video in motion.

Yes, same and everyone seems to have ASS as the first thing to change of course. (surprise, surprise). I asked the dealer about changing this for me and he said it was not possible. I like the idea of the ASS to default to 'last setting' as opposed to on or off. After a few convenience features are coded I will go hunting around to see what else I can decipher and add to the existing cheat.

.. anyway, back to the thread. Any more comments about voice control?
