How do you figure out dealer cost?

I'm at the dealer having my 135i serviced. While I'm here I decided to check out a new 340i xDrive. After several trips to the "manager" the sales guy insisted that the best they could do was MSRP becuase it's an "ordered car". I told him that was BS but he insisted that they only make 3% on these cars.

I told him I'd think about it and get back to him. Obviously I'm not going to pay MSRP, but how do I figure out what the dealer's actual cost is so I know where to start from? I tried KBB but it's MSRP doesn't even match the BMW website, so I can't trust it's dealer invoice price.

Is there a website that allows you to find the real dealer cost for a build?

You can find dealer 'invoice' on many sites, e.g. edmunds.com. I assume the real dealer cost is below that invoice, but MSRP because it's an ordered car is nonsense indeed.

Also kbb actually lists the "fair price" as $55,485 so there must be some additional dealer incentives or something that would allow them to sell it for less then invoice and still make a profit. (or at least kbb thinks there is)

Unfortunately there is only one BMW dealer in a 150 mile radius, so this is really the only one I can deal with. I'm going to shoot him an email today with a low ball offer and see what he says. Maybe he'll counter with something more reasonable.

Sorry I meant Haggle.com, it's a site where they give you MSRP and dealer costs and what people actually paid.

That site doesn't seem to exist. Goes to some generic Excite search page.

If the dealer is not going to provide invoice I wouldn't work with them. Kbb and Edmonds will show invoice as well. Even at invoice all auto distributors have a hold back built into the dealer cost so even if they sell at invoice (dealer cost), the dealer makes money. This is industry practice, every motor company does this. It's a built in rebate to the dealer "cost". I just ordered f32 at invoice less 2500 credit for loyalty credit and options credit. Dealer telling you they can't do at invoice because it's ordered is a lie.

I would find another dealer. I got a quote on an order well under MSRP and it was not even my dealership. Just one I inquired on from this site.

Correction.... unhaggle.com. I've saved thousands using this web site. It gives the actual MSRP, dealer cost, and what people have actually paid for new cars and best of all it's FREE ....

I'm trying unhaggle.com - and NONE of the zip codes I'm entering work. I've tried the full length zip - which is doesn't allow one of the extra four numbers. And even the zip for the dealerships. Not working, any tips?

Ok, it seems to be a Canadian web site. Use a Canadian postal code eg: L4c9R3, then convert the price in to US dollars using the current exchange rates. Today I beleive US .73 dollar is equal to 1 Canadian dollar.

Good luck...
