The car gods smiled on me today
My Comfort Assist option is a complete, albeit intermittent, mess. It seems to have a mind of its own.
Today, I could unlock the car from about 20 feet away but couldn't lock it unless I held the remote right next to the door handle. I moved away again and held the unlock button down and it did what it should have - unlock and roll down the windows. I approached the car, touched the door handle and to reverse the process (close everything) and......yep, nothing happened. Screwed around a while longer trying to discern a "pattern" to no avail. At some point during this ongoing madness, the car is locked and you can't roll the windows down unless you get in the car and do each one using the switch in the car. Being totally fed up with this POS car, I jumped in it and headed to my dealer knowing full well we won't be able to get it to replicate. Aha! It's as screwed up at the dealer as it is here at home. In fact while we were discussing an appointment (the car was locked) I went to open the door and couldn't so my SA saw it with his own eyes. I'll be taking it in next Wednesday so their specialist guy can check it out and possible fix it. The "My remote BMW" situation remains unresolved and totally screwed up as well and I still can't make a payment online. Wow! I just love having to screw around with stupid crap like this on a daily freaking basis. ETA Yes, I did check the battery on both remotes and they are a 3.0 volts Last edited by kent11202; 11-06-2014 at 06:30 PM.. |

voltage means very little - weak batteries can show correct voltage, but once under load they don't have the oomph.
have you tried new batteries? |

Good point - you are correct. I'll see if I can find a battery and change out just one of the remotes. Both remotes behave the same way so it's quite a coinkydink to have them both fail at the same time. I'm not holding out much hope though. If the remote can unlock the car from 20 feet away but not lock it, the weak battery amperage idea doesn't make a lot of sense but, what have I got to lose?

It's still a pot shot (the behaviour you describe is quite wacky) but hey, might as well Fingers crossed you hit a solution sooner rather than later...
