Manual tranny question

So I just got a brand new 328i and I just put about 3200 miles on it.

I'm getting better at driving stick but I wouldn't say I'm a pro. Today as I was in a hurry I accidentally began to engage 2nd gear as I was down shifting before engaging the clutch. I heard two loud clicks and immediately let go before even putting it into gear. Will this damage the engine or drive train? It is driving 100% okay but it just didn't sound good.

Obviously I wouldn't never make that mistake again, my mind was just elsewhere. What do you guys think?

Thanks for any comments.

I wouldn't worry about it. We've all messed up a a shift or two starting out. If you'recar appears to drive fine, then it's likely fine.

And way to go on the MT. It may take a little time to master driving stick--and you may regret your decision to go with MT sometimes, like when your stuck in traffic--but in the long run I'm pretty sure you'll be glad. As good as the AT is on the F30, MT is just more engaging and more fun.

Shouldn't be a problem.

No worries man. These transmissions are much stronger than you think. I learned how to drive stick on my first BMW. A 2002 325ci. I grinded the gears and put a tremendous strain on the clutch. After 35k miles, it was fine. Enjoy, and good luck

I'm loving it so far. Even though my first 1k miles were a little rough I still look forward to driving it every day even after 4 months!!

I learned on a Mitsubishi Lancer and beat the shit out of that tranny and never had any problems at all. I wouldn't worry about it, it's allllll good.

You should be fine. I did this exact thing when I first got my e90 328 (same transmission that is in the F30 BTW) and was pretty worried since, like you, I just wasnt familiar with the feel and sounds of the 6MT. Even though I "knew how" to drive manual when I took delivery, I immediately found out that driving around parking lots in friends manual transmission cars was a little different than driving it every day. Yes, the drive home from the dealer was quite the adventure (as was most of that first week). Two years later and it feels pretty much as good as the day I got it. For me there will be no going back.

You'll be fine and so will the car.
