Question for GT Owners

I currently have a F30 but I am looking to replace it either soon or sometime next year. I am looking at the LCI F30, 3GT and 4GC.

My questions for the GT drivers are...

Did you cross shop the GT and GC? If so what made you go for the GT?

If you got the GT prior to the 4GC coming out, would you get another GT or would you consider the 4GC for your next car?

I feel like they are very different but I like aspects of both. I like the sleek coupe lines of the GC but there is something about the GT I always liked, especially once I saw it in person.

I've never been so torn on what I want next. One day I want a 4GC the next a 3GT. I have driven both and like both, but the ride is different to me.

Just wondering what the GT guys think of the 4GC and how they compare.

I considered both. I was sold on the added passenger and cargo room and higher seating position of the GT. It's tough enough to see in a sea of SUVs and Uberpickups. I prefer the styling of the GC, but the practicality of the GT made it my choice. I haven't regretted it for a moment. Neither have my passengers.

3GT vs 4GC

You will notice 3GT owners are quite satisfied from this forum. So am I. I chose it because I have a child and I needed space in the back seat. 3GT is very spacious, more so than 5-series. I did try 4GC but the back seat was too tight. If I were single or 'just married', I would have gone for 4GC. The 3GT feels a bit bulky while driving. That was absolutely not the case with 4GC. If you do get the 3GT, I say get the one with 6-cylinder engine. It provides the needed zap for the 3GT when the car is loaded with people.

Hi Zirenz2006,

I had an F30 as my last car. I was ready for a new car and I was looking at a 5 series as I didn't fancy another 3 series.

Then I checked out the 4 GC but it kind of reminded me of a 3 series, basically that is what the 4GC is just a Coup version of it.
Yes the 4GC looks much better then a 3 series. So if your looking at another 3 series I would always get a 4GC.

Then I saw the 3 GT in the flesh and loved it straight away.

Ok so what do you get for your buck? You get more space than a 5 series.
you actually get 5 seats 2 upfront and 3 in the back where as the 4GC you only get 4 + 1 seats. 2 up front and 2 and a half in the back as the 4GC is really a coup.

The 3 GT has parts from a 3 series, parts from the 4 series and a little taste of an X series. Which all adds up to a very good great car.

The space at the back is phenomenal the length of the car is a bit longer than the 3 series. None of the panels from the 3 series can actually fit on the 4GT.

The 3 series and 4GC are both the typical BMW "Low Rider" style where as the 3GT you kind of sit a little higher up as per X series.

This is the first BMW with an active spoiler not that this is a major selling point

I am so glad that I choose this car and I highly recommend it to you sir.

Like others have mentioned, it (GT) has a little bit of everything as opposed to JUST stunning styling that the GC offers. GT trunk is much more practical than the GC. Weight difference is important to some people when it comes to handling the corners, so that is where the GC is better, BUT if your GT will have DHP then you can upgrade to the Dinan SHockware like I am which will give you nearly identical handling to the GC (unless of course the GC has the Dinan, lol)

Straight line speed is awesome in the 335i, not enough for me, but for most people YES.

As for the rear seat room, this is about 30% larger than the GC, so if you have car seats that are rear facing then the GC would be a concern, if not rear facing than the GC would be just fine for kids.

It's really a toss up man, I def love the GC also, but just 25% less practical for me. Plus I'm planning to go FBO and let the GT really shine. And it can be done quick and for under $3500. Good luck with your purchase....

Would I get another GT? Well of course, I cant wait to see what the future holds...

Merry Christmas

went to the dealer thinking we'd be getting the 4GC, but there wasn't much room in the back and the sloped roof reduced head room. didn't know about the 3GT. when the dealer asked what was important to us, we said space. when he showed us the 3GT we couldn't believe how much room there was in the back seat and when the hatchback opened up we were sold. love it.

I also went from an F30 to a GT and love it. As much rear leg room as a 7 series and, the cargo space in the back is awesome. Also, the extended wheelbase handles really nicely.

I think you will be very happy with the GT. I have been driving mine for 3 months now and love it. Previously I had been driving a 3 series saloon.

The GT is huge, versatile and comfortable for the family. And still bad enough when I am alone and want to behave like a hooligan!

Overall it's a great combo the of the car I want and the car my family needs!

I have to be honest, I have ordered my new GT 335d M Sport without a test drive. I already have a LCI 335d M Sport F30 which we bought new in Sept 2015, before that also had a F30 335d M Sport (March 2014. All 3 cars with Adaptive M Sport Suspension. Will it drive much different to the F30's?

Yes, I cross shopped both...the GT is significantly larger inside. If you have kids, or people riding in the back often, the GT is significantly better. Coming from two 335 sedans and a 335 convertible, the GT doesn't really seem like a dropoff in performance as well, which is nice.

Both have the downside/upside of frameless windows, and both have a hatch. The GT will be able to carry a lot more in the hatch. Good luck with your decision!

Hi,

The you will notice a difference as the GT sits a bit higher off the road than the F30.
But you will have a better ride for sure with the Adaptive suspension.

Looking forward to getting it, it will be replacing the company car (Audi A4 Avant Quattro Black Edition).

Honestly I think the 3GT is the best bang for the buck BMW you can get.

It just combines the bits you want out of other BMW's, save for the M cars,
and puts them in one car. That was really the selling point for me.

As well as coming for primarily larger BMW's, speficically a E39 touring and
a E32 7 series. So I do really appreciate the generous accomendations that
the 3GT offers.

Whenever the time comes to replace my current 3GT I'll definitely swap it for another one.
However this time I'll make sure to find an M-sport model since they just look so much more aggressive.

I do have to say that the 4GC is just a really attractive looking car.
Sadly the prices of one here just doesn't justify the looks and dip in practicality.

Hope this helps in some way!

I looked into both, one of the dealers I was talking to was really pushing it but I like the styling of the the GT better and definitely the space. The GC may as well been a sedan. Just bought a 335i GT yesterday... still in shock and awe phase, not sure it will go away.

Welcome to the GT owners club

I really glad that you appreciate what the car is really about and not be mislead by the people that feel that a car MUST look a certain way to be called a "nice " car.

I ran into an acquaintance who was looking at my 3GT in a parking lot without realizing it was mine. When I walked up and we started chatting he knew nothing about the model. He drives a Lexus ES. He could not believe it was a 3 Series when I showed him the rear seat legroom. For years he had dismissed the 3 & 5 Series because of rear legroom. He feels quite differently now.

While waiting (September 2015) for the delivery of my 2016 3GT I was given a 4GC to use. I do not know the price of the 4GC and I don't care. The 3GT feels perfect to me.

FYI ... The best money I ever spent was the Adaptive Cruise.

hi,

when I was looking for a new Beamer as i have my 3 series for 3 years and wanted a change.

I looked at the 4 GC which is the car I liked but it just seemed to be another 3 series with less seats!

Then I looked at the 5 series and was not impressed.....then I looked at the 3 GT and knew straight away this was the car I wanted.

As i pointed out earlier it has components from 3 other models which suits me just fine.

A guy sat in the back of my car yesterday and was amazed at the space in the rear.

It depends what your needs and budget are. I have been pleased with the bmw 328 gt. I have owned numerous 3,5 and 7 series. Find this car similar to a 5 series the way it rides and handles. It is close to a suv like a x3 but it's space is longer and less boxy. The ride is between a current x3 and a 3 series. I am running 225/55-17 tires which are the same than a base 528 so it makes sense it feels similar. The gt may be a different choice but it's part of the appeal. You do not see too many on the road. Also for those looking, the 328 gt is fine. I test drove the 335 and the 328 back to back and preferred the lighter, better balanced 328 gt. And I have a bmw 335x e93 coupe 2012 I also drive so I had an open mind. I expected I would of preferred the 335 gt but did not. Both cars are great though.

An 83 year old mum made the GT the obvious choice for me based on rear leg room and easy accessibility.
