What's the rarest standard color for each model?
Does BMW release production totals broken down by color? Is there any way to tell what are the most popular and the rarest colors for each model?

Since I am unaware of BMW restricting the numer of buyers selecting a reguarly available color option (obviously, there are colors available through the BMW Individual Program for a lot more money), what you are really asking is what is the least favorite color for each model?

Montego Blue raises vale.
BMW uses Montego Blue to advertise their performance models, it also has an effect on the perceived value of the car. In fact this website is using Montego Blue Beemers in the upper left corner of the header. The rarity of a color doesn't always increase value in a positive way, but the millions $ BMW spends on advertising certainly does!

While on the factory tour in September 12, we were told at the paint shop that 83% of all BMWs are some shade of black and white. Silvers and Greys included.
Sadly, this leaves only 17% to share for all the reds, blues, greens, and golds.

THere's a simple way to identify this. Go to your BMW dealership. Look at the color cars they have. Return in a month, and see what colors they still have. Those are the ugly colors no one is buying - like the meconium brown, and the robin egg blue.

That's one reason I chose Melbourne Red, besides the fact that I liked it the best. I like having a relatively unique look to my F30, as it will have other exterior mods as well. MG came in a close second for me, and my wife is "allergic" to grey anyway.

I would expect red to be popular in China/Asia, since it's the "happy" color. Green is the traditional good color in the Muslim world; probably others. |
