Has anyone switched the base shift knob to the sport knob? Any DIYs out there?

On a side note, I didn't see anyone post the Torx bit size on that tiny screw. Its a T6 torx, you can get these at Home Depot.
Edit: Guys, i recently received the m performance carbon fiber shifter and the screw is a T8! You can probably turn the screw with a T6 but it doesnt fill the hole as well and is prone to slipping while in the star peg. I put my T8 in there and it gripped hard and strong without any chance for grinding the hole apart. T8 torx screw is the one to use!

When the middle black piece is removed youll be left with the first picture. It is a very tiny screw with 6 stars if thats what you want to call it. That is what holds most of the knob together. After that screw is removed you will get second picture take it out completely but remember the middle whole you took out the screw from from the frame because when you put it back it has to go back on the same spot. The P button comes out off automatically after this screw is taking off. As you can see i cracked it from the sides a little and i scratch the bottom, because at the beginning i was trying to force it out because i didnt think there was a screw holding until later that i discovered the middle black piece came out and underneath was the screw. Make sure you take out the screw and the rest will be a breeze no need to force it. Don't make my mistake, you can potentially sell that part or put it back for next owner if carbon is not there style.
Thank god for this I was trying to pull mine out yesterday and I kept prying at it and I stopped because it looked like it wasn't coming out at all, after seeing this I will start by removing that black piece first tomorrow, I actually have the base line shifter but I'm sure it's the same, thank you for posting this

I used a towel over the pick to be safe and not scratch any parts coming off and it worked wonderfully.
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know how to install the piece highlighted in red? I am awaiting for the piece to arrive but I do not know how to install it. Should I pry it off? Thanks!

I've got a sport automatic transmission. I want to change the original cover with a cover with an M on it, but I don't know how to remove safely the original cover. The included removal tools are totally crap.

Some one knows how to do it safely?

Thanks in advance.

Use that blue pry tool to gently pry up around the edges. It's just glued down and will come loose easily.

Thats simple, just look at the pictures. Insert a very small slotted screwdriver into the top gap of the old cover and start to move the screwdriver a little around. You would determine that the cover is moving a bit. Now tilt the screwdriver upwards and watch the cover is coming off. The old adhesive strip below should remain, if you want to rechange it any time again.
Now pull off the cover from the adhesive strip of the M-cover and positioning it correct at the shifter knob. Insert and press with slight force after it, your done.

Yes, OEM look, fitment and quality.

One minor complaint. The transparent rectangle for the M/S function LED becomes a fraction lower than OEM (see red oval in the picture below). So you see a little of the alu housing from the gearknob. If you make those two tiny spots black before you glue the cover, you want see anything.

Be warned about imported "OEM M-parts" which are bogus caused by far east fakes. If the customs open up the package and aware the counterfeit product they're be able to charge you for buying known fake products.
Dunno how they would handle that into Belgium but I wont try that in Germany.
Btw: Mine is the original including the shifter

I would buy the OEM cover, but the problem with the OEM cover is you can't buy the 'M-cover' seperately. You must buy the cover and the carbon shifter. And personally I don't like that carbon shifter. And 182 euro for just a cover with an 'M' on, that's to expensive.

I know about the fake parts, but little things like this are passing the customs. They got more work with intercepting bigger fake things, I guess.

Screw, Removing it is all it took.

I'll attach a pic of the screw

Process is simple.
1. Wedged a flat head screw driver into the Gap of the Black piece and wedged it out. It was held in place weak glue.
2. Remove Torx Screw from silver bezel
3. Install M Performance CF Gear Shift
4. Screw torx screw back in
5. Remove 3M tape from replacement black piece and stick on.
6. Step back and admire the job

Agree, thanks to the thread! I just did the same.

The screw head that fits is a T8 star head.

I know this is an old thread, but where did you get the CF (I'm assuming vinyl wrap) you used under the shift lever to match the MPerformance dry carbon fiber?
