M Performance Exhaust Impact on Performance

Hello,

For those of you that had installed the M Performance exhaust, has anyone of you noticed a difference in performance of your car? Either enhanced it or hindered it? I was under the impression that this mod is only for audio effect but was told that it makes the lag more noticeable?

Tks!

If anything I thought the turbo was a bit more responsive. I love mine.

I was considering a mpe but not so much if it is just to improve the sound. My next problem is if I were to install an aftermarket exhaust would the increase in performance decrease my fuel economy? If so I would have to stick with the mpe. LOL

Any performance part will decrease your fuel economy because you will be driving more aggressively. The performance exhaust is great but if it adds anything it will be like 5hp.

No performance exhaust will add much as ours is designed almost perfect. You want some good performance get a BMS JB and maybe a downpipe.

Turbos can benefit from a higher flow exhaust, but the main restriction is from the cat in the downpipe. You need a higher flow exhaust all the way from the turbo to see any substantive power gain, and you need a tune to really get the full advantage of it.

The stock exhaust, outside of the EPA mandated cat's, is pretty nicely sized...there aren't too many kinks I've seen when getting down below, which is probably why most aftermarket exhausts that aren't axle-back's are netting 10 whp over the entire range...

if I were to do it, like sean10mm was saying, I'd focus on the DP - getting a 200 cell cat will give you a lot of gains WITH a strong tune.

I saw that on my Evo, turned up the boost with the stock DP, not too many gains...with a high flow cat, something like an additional 15 whp. That's CRAZY! (this is for a high boost evo, so probably not too comparable).

My M Performance exhaust is on the UPS truck for delivery today. I don't expect to feel any power difference but I hope it will be a little lighter and I know it will be audible, unlike my almost silent OE system. I really just want to hear my car, especially at the track. I have plenty of power for my skill level.

You will really like it once it is broke in but its sounds the best full throttle. You will love it. its so easy to install.

Good to know! You installed yours yourself I presume? Did you have access to a lift?

I just opened the box, it's going on tomorrow!

I didn't use a lift because it was such an easy install took me 15 to 20mins and most of that is jacking the car up or getting it on wheel ramps. The stock exhaust is dimpled exactly where you should cut it and everything.

Just get a chain pipe cutting tool. If you don't have one, rent one from a autoparts store.

No, and you wont notice a seat of the pants difference on any given catback, unless you do the whole header, midpipe/downpipe and catback. Especially with a tune is when you can notice a big seat of the pants difference.

But with the M perf dont expect anything other then deeper sound.

Its not lighter....not to dissapoint you or anything, its the same muffler as your oem with different packing materials and a tiny bit of better exhaust flow.

Right and right!

I had the exhaust installed yesterday (didn't do it myself, $70 at the local muffler shop) and overall I'm very happy with it. As dd1981 said, it's NOT lighter but I love the way it sounds! It's deeper but not raspy. I can hear it now inside the car but it doesn't "drone". The best part (obviously) is when I get on it hard and click off full throttle up shifts........YES! It sounds awesome...every shift delivers a race car like snort between gears and downshifts sound even better. Someone said this exhaust is "a lot of money for some noise" but for me, it was money well spent. The stock car was just tooooooooo quiet.

It was already on my car when I bought it and I can agree, it sounds amazing under hard throttle, the exhaust burble is music to the ears.

Very glad to see you're happy with it. And $70 isn't much considering its cold out and who wants to crawl around on cold concrete to work on a car.

It's worth it, especially no warranty hassle. It's not intrusive at all and that's perfect. I think you summed it up nicely. Congrats

Hmmm was about to pull the trigger on one of these things, but now wondering if there's a benefit to getting the GT high flow downpipe and keep the stock exhaust.

The axle back muffler aka M Perf Exhaust only has an impact on sound, nothing discernible with performance.

Bear in mind a DP voids your warranty.
