Like I said, it just seems to be my financial situation that's leading to these discussions. But with that aside, a $48,000 328 just doesn't make sense to me considering I remember getting 325's for between $31,000 and $37,000, not too many years ago. Even my first e90 325 was only $38,000.
I can't speak to BMW's pricing in the past, but it definitely seems like they don't care about appealing to people who want to comparison shop.

When you can fully package options from most of their competitors for $3-5k and the same ones cost you $12k with Bimmer, that's a huge leap to make.

You're thinking makes a lot of sense, but a 1 series is just too small for me, and a 2011 E 90 or even a CPO E 90 would be the better option. It's just that I've been sitting in an E90 since 2006, I've owned two of them, and I'm just really feeling like I want to be in something else. We'll just have to see how it plays out LOL.

There's also a new A4 coming out (although it looks pretty much just the same), maybe that will be a little cheaper option?

Reran the numbers, total cost difference between my 2012 versus 2013 configured 335i is only about $45.00. I think I am one of the lucky ones where I had to ala carte some things on 2012 model, that are now part of some packages, such as:

2012 2013 (ZDH Package)

Adaptive M suspension 900
Variable Sport Steering 300 1000
Savings 2013 over 2012 $200.00

ZTP 2550 3100
6NR+6NL 900
Savings 2013 over 2012 $350

So the minor changes in the other areas only bumped my overall price by $45.00.

Hopefully the price increase in 2013 will not be to painful, otherwise I will need to order before they kick in.

They're just getting very very expensive.

Sadly my 335 has nearly 115,000 miles on it, and I'm nearing a time when I do need to purchase a new car. I guess I have champagne taste, and a beer budget LOL.
The problem is that prices for everything are rising while salaries have remained stagnant for the past 10 years. Pretty soon, more than a BMW will be out of reach for people....like higher education.

Me too. I wrote my local DLR asking for their price...but if they don't have invoice #'s yet I don't guess they'll be able to. If not no worries, I'm waiting anyway...and it's not like our 04 Z4 is gonna drop that much more in trade in value .

You and me both.

My wife yesterday:...."are you looking at that BMW AGAIN???? Just buy it already!"

Me: "I can't! It's not available yet!"

Other thing to consider is inflation. Based on the Consumer Price Index increases, if you bought a 325 for 35k in 1998, that would be approximately $49,500 in today's dollars.

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

I do agree that the cost is getting way up there though.

ROW cars have fogs, US cars do not.

It's not that hard to figure out invoice, they haven't changed it in a long time.

Base X 0.92 Rounded to nearest $5.

Options X 0.91 Rounded to the nearest $5.

Cool, thanks for the info! I'm assuming that the following prices are not applicable for "invoice discount" (correct me if I'm wrong):

Destination & Handling $895
Training Fee $180
MACO $200-$400 (Depending on region)

I am fortunate enough to be able to buy BMWs for my kids because I don't waste my money buying things I don't want/need that some merchant (or cultural trend setter) thinks I do need in order to separate me from even more dollars than I'd already planned on giving him/her/it. I'm not poor, but neither am I Bill Gates.
