I was getting ready for a battle between these two to decide my next car and then I saw whats happening with 2013 F10 M5 prices
Unless the 340 is more underrated than bmw motors already are the 340 is going to be a c400 competitor. Will need bmw to offer an mppk to get near the c450

Every dyno test I have seen of the N55 shows it putting out notably more HP at the rear wheels than you would expect from an engine rated at 300 HP. As for the B58, while I have no specific info, since we are talking about essentially the same displacement (even though this engine will be a member of the new 500cc/cylinder architecture), I would be surprised if they advertise it with a more than, say 25 HP increase. Actual HP will likely be above that, but I think that beyond a "common architecture' BMW's main goal with this engine and the B48, will be increased efficiency. Fed mileage requirements are going up next year, and squeezing a few more mpg out of all their cars will be a prime goal for every manufacturer.

When do we expect BMW to officially reveal the LCI? It seems it would have to be pretty soon. Do they schedule a press conference, or just a blanket media release? I'm waiting to evaluate this before purchasing (if I'm underwhelmed, I suppose I can use it as leverage on a better deal for a used 14 or new 15).

Exactly what I've been saying for months now. BMW has underrated their engines for years now, but especially since the n54. I'd expect the same from the B58.

I would think by April at the latest? Production starts mid July.

Someone could look up when the E90 LCI was unveiled vs when it started hitting dealer lots.

I agree the b58 will be underrated but say bmw officially rates it at 325hp/325lbft, what do we think the real world output be around 340/340?

That is more inline with the c400 which is rated 329/354 than the c450 which is rated at 362/384. And that does not account for mb underrating their motors at all.

My point was if bmw wants to hang with the c450 powerwise they will need to offer an mppk

I was disappointed that the 3 Series LCI wasn't included in BMW's NYIAS schedule, but I'll be in my usual seat in the front row on Press Day just in case!

I saw the 2016 production schedule at a dealer today. 2016 435i coupe/convertible production will last for 8 months and end in 2016/02, which means they could start 440i production as early as 2016/03.

I'd almost guess right after the 435 ends in February?

Who knows when the 430 is due out, I guess July 2016.

Looks like this is when I factory order my 4GC. Undecided yet whether I'll get the 430i or 440i. I'm still chuffed with my N20 engined 328i and that's coming from a tuned N54. It's just perfect for a daily drive car and it's not like I'm using this car for my track work
