I erased the latest download from the iDrive, hit retrieve previous software, and then I downloaded the new software again. I guess as if I reset the whole process.

Yeah, i finally found the "list of instructions".

Did all the steps and tried un-pairing, pairing, turning bluetooth on/off, did a rain dance, and it worked one time. Unchecked blue-tooth from Office once again and re-enabled it... now it works.

Congratulations. As a reward, I will now answer your next question before you ask it:

If you cannot hear text alerts from your iPhone when it is connected via Bluetooth, it is because Bluetooth audio has been turned on and needs to be turned off.

In order to hear the "ding ding" from the iPhone and be notified with a sound that you've just received a text message, Bluetooth audio in iDrive needs to be turned off. I know this sounds counter intuitive but it's the way it is.

Buttons 1-3: I do a lot of driving with the nav and like to have a quick ability to toggle between full screen and the two most important split-screens.

Buttons 4-5: I like having one-push access to instantly start one of the three input modes. Prevents the need to hit "Radio" and then scroll down to "Satellite" or "AM". Same for iPod.

Buttons 6-8: The three most important navigational commands.

Shortcut Keys that can't happen (yet should): iPod Playlists, Traffic Alerts, Recent Destinations.
