F30 335i BMS intake & JB4 ISO dyno
Got some new on both fronts to share with you guys..
The test car was BMS's 2013 F30 335i w/ JB4, downpipe, bms thermostat, and E40. While the car runs better on E50 at these boost levels BMS noticed lately the fuel pressure is not holding as well as it used to. Often cuts out with a fuel pressure below target code. So they had to cut that mix down a bit. The F series N55 ISO firmware is mainly intended for larger than OEM turbos but ultimately will be made available to factory turbo cars as well. Still a few things to work through on it but the dyno results basally mirror what they get on E series N55 ISO runs. So it's pretty close from that perspective. The ISO firmware requires the pneumatic solenoid. The N55 turbo is so limited adding the intake allowed roughly another 1psi of boost especially up top which is reflected in the ~10-15whp gains. BMS also did a lot of other pulls at lower boost levels. The intake showed minimal gain at stock power levels and maybe 5rw at 13psi. But even at stock boost levels the new intake sounds incredible and throttle response feels better than stock on the road. Mike |

Can't wait until that intake is available to buy... I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with ISO/meth/E85...

The intake installs and removes in 5 min and they will do an intro price at $229 for the first 100 intakes with the normal price being $279. I don't have a date yet for when those first 100 will be in stock but they are being made now. It takes 1.5hrs to make each intake on the rotomolding machine! I'll update this post when I'm able to take orders. Mike |

So what kind of sound are we going to hear from this? The whine and whoosh of the turbo or the throaty sound of the intake sucking in air at high rpms? Or both?

Based on my experience with intakes and other N55 and N54 engines I've heard with intakes, that's pretty much it.

Yes although to me it seems like the it's mostly increased turbo spool sound than actual intake air woosh.
Every car varies and I haven't head this intake in person, so perhaps we should wait for people to get their hands on one before jumping to conclusions !

Terry said that at 13psi he saw about 5whp. Right now as configured, the JB4 Stage 2 Maps target: Map 1: 12.5psi Map 2: 14 psi Map 7: 18.5psi Interesting side point, they're not even bothering with the N20 intake as they said even at 24psi it showed no gains. |

Yep. Time to put money on more whoosh over whine. I've got $2 on increased 'whoosh'.

Would you guys recommend all JB4 users with the flex fuel wires to run the same mix of 40% do to the loss of fuel pressure

I don't want to speak for the BMS folks, but I'd put money that it's exactly as it looks with no cover.
I asked about the intake temps and Terry said they were similar to the stock unit as the bottom of the stock housing provides plenty of cool air to this intake as well. |
