Steinbauer Powerbox?
Hello,
My 328i / F30 is almost 2 years now and I'm thinking about having built in a Steinbauer Powerbox to upgrade power and torque by about 20 %. This Box is from Austria and is not cheap (appr. US 1.900,-) But it has 2 advantages: - it has a possibility to switch off and on by remote or just by switch (for when I am lending out my car), - it only interferes with the lenght of the injection time and leaves all other engine-input to the original ECU. Steinbauer claims that this is the best way to upgrade the power and also the engine will not get as hot as with other solutions. Does anyone have experience or an opinion about this Steinbauer Powerbox? Please let me know your thoughts about it. Best regards.

No experience, but I was told it steinbauer supplies the boxes to AC-schnitzer. Unfortunately they've upped the price from 680 euros to 1380 just 2 months ago
There was a test showing ac-schnitzer actually puts quite soms strain on the engine up to the point where the turbo sounded stressed. It is one of the very few tapping into the can-bus though. |

I now decided to go for the Promotech box from Sweden (www.promotech.se) . Half the price of the Steinbauer but gives appr. 50 more hp and 90 (!) more Nm. And: this one also has the possibility to switch it off..... so I only will use when I feel to do so....

Btw: the Jb4 is very hard to get in Holland and there will be no support. As far as the price is concerned: in the US it is rather affordable but importing it to Holland you have to add 18% VAT + appr. 10% import tax.

It seems that JD engineering supplies the speed-buster units for our cars. And it's 21% VAT ;-) 18% was when you started driving BMW's ;-)
Mosselman is selling their variant as well, but almost steinbauer money. |

VAT
Yep, sorry no 18% but 21%! My mistake. I think there was not VAT at all when I started driving my BMW 2002ti in 1975.... although I'm not sure...

Had the Promotech box installed for a couple of weeks, but did not like the result. It seemed the car was driving less smoothly, while the engine got a lot hotter (appr. 10 degrees). And -last but not least- also my DTA pedalbox did not repond anymore as before. Since I like the working of the pedalbox more than the 50 extra hp I decided to have the Promotech box removed again and got a full refund.

First, I thought to sell my Racechip Ultimate, after I got mine 328i, but then again the upgrade cost to use it on it was just 50e(new cables) and I thought to give it a try.
Mine is 8speed auto, and love it so far how it works even on lowest tune settings. Drive is actually much smoother to me then how it was without it and I didn't notice any temperature difference. Thought I don't know how hard and often you are pushing your car. Here is also, Auto Bild compassion article regard popular European piggy back systems specifically for 328i. http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/fileadmin...t_englisch.pdf Good luck! |
