Camera system failure

Happened in heavy rain yesterday but whenever turned on a camera ( top, side, back) a camera malfunction message came on.

Weird thing though was that the cameras all worked with no problems. A quick google search revealed that this was a common problem. Anywhere from camera, to module to harness. It always seemed to coincide with rain.

This to me appears to be a design flaw.

At $900 per camera, owning this car after warranty is a bit scary.

Anyone else with similar issues?

I have an issue with the front windscreen mounted camera in my January 2014 build 335i where it fails if I park the car in direct sun.

Apparently a software bug that won't be fixed until November.

See this thread for slightly more information.

My reverse camera STILL doesn't work at night, the LED licence plate lights reflects off the white paint on the bumper and makes it impossible to use in low lighting.

I have had this error when it is really foggy outside. I gather the camera system knows when visibility is non existent and provides this error rather than showing pea soup for liability reasons.

Once the fog clears the system comes back to normal, so I suspect intense rain to be similar.

Yup. Had same issue. After recalibrating, then a module replacement, then 3 cameras replaced....turned out to be a faulty cable to one of the cameras.

Apparently the HSD cable used for these cameras is easily damaged or maybe not very well designed.

My guess is if rain triggers the fault, the issue is either one of the front bumper cameras or one of the cables connected to the front bumper cameras. My 2 cents.

Your 2 cents was spot on!

Turned out to be harness and camera to the right front bumper.
