That's when I discovered that someone had intentionally kicked out my right, rear tail light. Fortunately the damage was limited to the outside corner unit.

I didn't call the police, thinking there wasn't anything to do at that point. Maybe I should have. I imagine the part is less than my deductible, and I can install it myself.

The depravity of the general public never ceases to amaze me.
Made me think of a theological concept - TULIP, the T is for Total depravity of man.

That's my guess. The lot was full, which was so bizarre for ANYONE to be there on a Friday night.

Always call the Police, long story but years ago my Mom got hit and ran, she had no idea of even the color of the car that hit her, nothing. She didn't call but when she got home and told me what happened I did. Forty five minutes later cop knocked at the door and gave us the insurance and contact information for the parents of the kid who hit her. The cop had spoken with a nervous kid with fresh body damage on a car at a city park an hour earlier, it was one in a million but ... always call the Police!

Most unfortunate.

sucks. I would probably park the same way in an empty lot. I will not do that anymore however.

I understand the aggravation of people toward double-parkers. I share it. But I was raised by example and instilled with a rational sense of behavioral ethics apparently lacking by many in today's society.
I in no way condone the behavior of the ass who hit your taillight. Just because something pisses you off doesn't mean it requires any reaction other than to let it go.

Looks like a hit and run. You're lucky they just backed into your light hence it's broken. You could have had bumper or fender damage as well. Could have happened to anyone. People backing out without looking, then after they damaged your car they took off.

A car did not back into my 335. Somebody busted it out by kicking it. What part of a vehicle could back into my car and only damage the tail light? It's 2 feet in the air.

Question, if this was a "kick" or a "ding from a car" would that have set off the car alarm? Not that the OP would have heard it while in the office. Just wondering. Not sure how sensitive the car alarm is on the car.

This is best described as "Parking Lot Rage". Actually if one does find a "suspect" parking position it is very easy to assume the reason. But, it could be any number of reasons...emergency rush, inattentiveness, limited parking skills, etc. It is quite easy to leave a note on the windshield as a friendly reminder.

Of course this will have no effect on an "entitled, supercilious A$##%&*". On that type of individual, nothing will work. Smashing a tail light, slashing a tire, keying a door, etc., will most likely lead to further PLR.

Good question! I didn't hear anything. Makes me wish it had a feature to alert my BMW Online App if the alarm goes off.
