Amazed at how cheap real estate is in the U.S. in general. Here in Toronto, the average price is north of $500k as well, however that will only really buy you something about 45 min from the city. Condos in Toronto are 500k. 2500 sq ft. detached homes are 1 mil+. The Real Estate market is insane here.

amazing how youre comparing real estate in the US as a whole to the wealthiest city in Canada.

15% is probably a good guide for max payment. I'm a little under that. Of course, it always depends on what other liabilities you have.

You're right, but as someone who's traveled throughout the US, and who's invested in Real Estate both here in Canada, the US, and abroad, I can tell you that in general, the U.S. is cheaper. Of course, there are exceptions (NYC for example). But you can buy a mansion in Beverly Hills for the same price as a 2 bedroom bungalow in a suburb of Toronto. A 2 bedroom tiny townhouse in Toronto goes for almost $900k + maintenance and utilities!!! It's crazy.

i think its funny how the OP was asking about age in this thread, but it has devolved into real estate prices and annual salary...

all points posted here are correct in one way or another, we should all just be happy we drive bimmers.

Glad to see you resisted the French fascination with diesel.

Could you actually find a dealer with a 335i to test drive ?

I'm 30. My glacier silver on saddle brown 328i F30 is my second BMW. My first BMW was at age 26 with an alpine white on saddle brown 335i E92. The latter was leased and the former was purchased. Two of the best decisions I've made.

I bought my first E36 when I was about 50 about 12 years ago. Got an E90 335i in 2009. Just ordered my F30 335i at 62. Wish I had discovered these cars earlier.

Me too, first BMW, age 44. Can't believe I waited so long to try BMW, I've had Audi, Merc, Lexus before, but this is by far the best drive, and economical too!

32, 2nd bmw. coming from a 2007 e90 which i bought at 27.

when it comes to vehicle price vs. income, i'll make up some numbers here. if you make 140K/year (as per bmw) and are leasing a 3 series over 4 years that's 35K / (4*140K) which works out to 6.25% ... i'd assume that's not an issue for people making that kind of money.
