I'm on the VA side of DC and definitely haven't driven my F30 since the Thursday storm brought this snow. My driveway is about a 1/4 mile long and on a hill, so no way I'd be getting the car up and down that thing! Thank God for the new Grand Cherokee 4x4. Be safe out there, friends!

I live in a 'no snow' zone and when it did snow....it was awful. We'd just got the car (Dec) and switched the summer tires out for all seasons. I think summer tires are awful all around in a rainy climate like here (Seattle) The all seasons aren't much better in snow so when it does snow an inch, I just take the mini
I think it's a rear wheel thing personally. I'm unlikely to by another one if we move someplace with more snow.

I can get up my driveway in the snow. Snow tires are worth it to me at least.
Obviously these are not my snow tires/wheels. Just the best shot I have of my driveway.

Why would you try to back up a hill with RWD in the snow?? I once couldn't get my M coupe to go up a steep hill on cold tires in the DRY! Summer tires just got hard as a rock and spun/hopped.
If you get moist snow on >freezing roads, it can get slick as ice. The colder it gets, the colder the snow gets, and the drier the snow gets, the easier it is to drive on. |

I believe BMW issued a recommendation that High Performance Summer Tires may not be suitable in snow or icy condition, if that applies to your situation I guess they were correct.
