m-sports kit retrofit + insurance?

Hi, Im getting my front, side, rear bumpers replaced with m-sports later this month (currently on its way from Germany). I'm insured with Suncorp, and I'm doing everything via dealer (ordered+paint+fit).

Do I need to declare I've changed this? or is it not necessary because its official BMW?

note: this is my first ever body mod I've done on a car

Any modification to any car needs to be noted for insurance purposes. If you don't disclose, you risk the insurance company not paying out, should a claim be made.

So if you original car was say the Sport Line and after your M-Sport panels are fitted and you don't tell the insurer and if say the front M-Sport bumper panel is damaged, they only know the panel will be the original Sport Line panel and pay for it.

Then they find out you changed it without their knowledge, they will probably deny your claim as you did not honour your duty of disclosure requirements.

Even organising my insurance, I had to disclose all factory options as well, in case of a claim. The insurance company has to know everything about your car.

Cheers

thanks, as I thought.

Im just worried if I tell them i retrofitted a m-sport bumper, they will consider it to be the whole m-sport kit (seats, interior exterior etc) and my insurance cost will shoot up more than it should. How should I word it as to not cause confusion?

As clearly and direct to the point as possible including the extra cost. Do not try and avoid anything.

The onus is on YOU to disclose EVERYTHING. Don't hide anything from the insurance company.

+1, but specifically do you know the cost of the front bumper only? I just like the sport version of the front bumper & can only be bothered changing just that one component.

Ive just created a thread on prices as a guideline. Brace yourselves for some heavy costs After all, we ARE in Australia aren't we?

Really mate, you need to:
  1. take anger management courses
  2. drink less
  3. exercise more
  4. do all of the above
Otherwise you'll end up when you pop a blood vessel.

OP - Suncorp was pretty good with modifications from what I remember, although from your photo's I see you're on your P plates so you've got the thick end of the deal from the start. Full disclosure is always key.

In the end how much extra did you have to pay for the M Sport body kit for insurance?

I wouldnt think that it would raise it by much.. $50-$80?

didnt raise it at all, apparently, the next mod i do will nudge it up..

hey guys, one more question (not sure if ive asked this in the past), all the insurance companies say that wont insure custom paint work on cars (on their website). I painted my roof black, is that considered custom paintwork?

So when you disclosed all the mods, did you tell them you retrofitted m sport bumpers or did you pass it off as the m sport package. Which insurance company did you go with ? How much did it cost ?
