Felipe Massa leaving F1 for DTM

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Apparently Mercedes is looking at Massa for a seat in one of their AMG DTM cars for 2014! They will have to wait until the end of the DTM season though, to be fair, but Wolff has been talking for months about next year's line-up and maybe pulling in one of BMW's drivers, another F3 driver or (he's hinted multiple times) an F1 driver. He's just admitting now that that F1 focus is on Massa.

I think this would be a GREAT move for Massa being that there are not (m)any options left for him that would be even career lateral.

The succes of F1 drivers in DTM is a bit of a mixed bag.... (and vice versa)

lol very true! I think it is not an easy transition from one series, car, style to another for ANY driver but Coulthard, Di Resta, Alesi (he was in the F430 GT2 on the same day that Massa returned from his injury sidelining back in '09), Hakkinen, etc have all done well

I guess he is now talking with Williams about next year. he would replace Maldonado:

This would seem even more plausible if MAL sponsorship runs dry due to govt intervention

They will need to do something, for sure since they couldn't have Petrobras and PDVSA on the same car

There was so much hype surrounding Massa when he entered F1 and especially when he joined Ferrari along side Schumacher. Nothing ever happened and he was only a dissapointment. I actually ran into him while skiing in Italy at a VROOM event.

I think I heard Smedley on the Radio... "Felipe, RingMeister is faster than you. Can you confirm the message".

He was World Champion for 1/2 lap on the last lap until Timo Glock brain farted in the Toyota!

That was the height of his career, no doubt. The year after (not considering the spring to the head from Hungry) his performance was lackluster prior to injury.

I do wish him luck in his future racing.

No he wasn't world champion. You're not champion till race is over.

It's like saying Al Gore was President until the recount was halted.

I suspect motivation has played a part in his performance over the years. Playing rear gunner to your designated #1 team mate is not going to inspire you to go 100%.
He has certainly picked up the latter part of this season now that he is looking for a drive elsewhere. See also Ricciardo this year once the seat at RBR became available, Webber at RBR before it clicked that Vettel was the favoured son etc.

Good for him. He obviously love the sport and is a nice guy. Williams is an empty shell of what it used to be but at least he can continue doing what he love with less external pressure and glee coming his way since no one expects anything and any point he can score will be a positive surprise. I wish him luck, he is going to need it.

So Maldonado will have to choose either Lotus or Sauber, which makes this quote rather interesting:
"If Maldonado does move to Lotus then Hulkenberg would effectively have to choose between staying on with Sauber or returning to Force India for 2014, a U-turn which could have grievous implications for Paul di Resta's future in the sport"

Just my opinion, but I think Massa is better than Maldonado...

I thought Hulk was already in at Lotus.
Massa to Williams...thats about 5 steps down and no mistake.
At least it will give Williams a yardstick so that they will have a better idea of where they are with the car...Massa being a pretty decent pedaler and easily better and more consistent than that dick Maldonado.
