Got the car under MSRP but I knew the sales manager where we bought it. I did call other dealers beforehand to negotiate but some had markups or would only sell me it at MSRP.

Anyways, it's definitely different in many aspects but to me still provides that sporty joy of driving like the 3 series does.

As a heads up I bought the car for my wife. We looked at the 340i M-sport, IS 350 F sport, and C300. She loved the Alfa Romeo when she saw it and drove it. She said she didn't get that feeling when she saw the others. I felt the same way. To me it was between the 3 and Alfa.

I personally have been meaning to trade my 535i for an M3 F80 but ever since the refresh coming up mid year I am waiting. However, driving this base Giulia has me considering the Quadrofoglio now especially with all these reviews saying the Quadrofoglio is good.
Wow! Surprised you were cross shopping with the 340i instead of the 330i. Been thinking about a Giulia or an A4 with a stick shift for me (and hopefully be able to swap more with my wife's 340i than we currently do), but I'd expect the 340i to be on another level.

Guilia is a cool looking car, but quiet a few friends are sitting out the current crop of A4/C-class/F30/Guilia and will wait for American.

Giulia won't be offered with a stick . Original design didn't pass US safety tests or something in a crash.

Yeah, the A4 would definitely be a stick, but wondering if a Giulia would be worth conceding the third pedal.

More info came out on the Alfa Quad..

The Alfa Quad's 505hp netted 392whp..losing 113 to parasitic loss. This was on a Mustang Dyno which are noted to be conservative. Trap speed on both was within bit over 1mph. Weight of the Quad was right on 3700lbs. Anyone have an M3 Comp dyno sheet handy? Also of note were the gear ratios...the M3 posting 3.46 to the Quads 3.09 final ratio.

Cool it shows the ATS-V as well as the MBZ.

Nice, thanks for posting. 476rwhp for an M3 vs 392hp for the Alfa. So why doesn't it eat it up at the track?

It might have to do with the better power to weight ratio along with its reported better steering and suspension. Watching the timed laps by Randy on Motor Trend, it looked like he was able to drive harder into the turns and carry more speed through. And when he got back on the power, the QF gearing allowed it to recover speed a little quicker than the M3.

It beat out the M3, but not by much. And now we know why from the dyno results you posted. Good find!

Thanks! Just need to convince CanAm lol that gearing matters.

The power to weight ratio is off if the cars output is 476...it puts them VERY close together..which is what I've been saying from the start. The cars are closer than the published stats show. It (M3) just can't overcome that 4/10ths sec it gives up at the start......

I mentioned this earlier in the thread: drove a 330i M Sport the day before I drove the Ti, and preferred the Ti for handling and acceleration. It just felt quicker and more agile.

On the other hand, anyone read the C & D comparo? They had a weird problem with the QF:
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...ifoglio-page-5

"customers should consider themselves part of the development team"

So, I'm thinking...nah.

They look to be a force to be reckoned with likely taking BMW's bread & butter 330/328 marketshare..
tho the Ti is slightly underpowered.. curious how you compare the Ti to your 335..

I wouldn't say the Giulia is a 3 series killer, but I also prefer it over the current 3 series.

I think the big 3 Germans should take a step back and take a hard look at what the Giulia is. It's what these companies USE to make. A fun luxury sports sedan that has a 50/50 weight ratio, really good handling and acceleration and the excitement when you get behind the wheel.

I also wouldn't take anything that C&D says to heart. Once someone drives this car, they'll understand. It's what made me love Ferrari's. Just drive them. No Italian car is perfect or reliable, but for a gear head, it makes complete logical sense.

Just my .02

335i is heavier, little bit less eager to turn, but I don't think I can give up THE POWAH. N55 is just so fast.

Counterpoint is that...if I had plenty of time (like retired) and didn't care if I was at the dealer a lot, I might go for the Ti. It was that fun.

Bottom line: I'm ordering a 340i soon.

(BTW, also drove a new A4 with Sport suspension recently. Honestly thought it was dull / uninspired compared to 330i and Giulia Ti. Not sure why A4 seems to be winning all the rankings)

QF is more 53/47 balance (F/R)...

but it's a cool car and worth a look for those in the market.
