Update 5/20- left port Brunswick GA for Charleston SC. ETA tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know:

1) How my 340i will get from the port at Charleston SC to the VPC? Rail? Truck?

2). Ditto from VPC to PDC?

3). Is it possible to track the vehicle from Charleston or is that the end of my tracking experience?

Thanks in advance

MWH

Update 5/21 - The boat ride around the world is OVER!! The Prime Ace finally made it to Charleston. So now it's just a matter of getting into/out-of the VPC and to PDC. Hoping that my CA will call Monday to talk PDC pickup dates!

Should take you about 2-3 days from today to arrive at VPC, by rail.

From VPC to PCD, should be by truck. Once your car finishes at the VPC, they should give you the trucking company's name. By that point you would already know your PCD date though.

Did you ever get your PDC date?

What does the trucking company name have to do with getting the car to PCD? BMW AG contracts with multiple trucking lines and dispatch will not talk to you unless you work for the port or factory. From my personal experience not worth the time finding out the small details and I would not go by the time frame he claims. My car took two weeks before it released from the VPC due to the inclement weather. The car will get there when its there. No point in getting the details like the name of the trucking company it not going to make the process any faster. IMO. I tried micro managing the process it just makes the wait harder. Just my two cents.

Btw: Great color combination. Post up pics when you get it a PCD

Let's be clear - this isn't about micromanaging ANYTHING. I fully acknowledge that I have no control over anything, that I am at the mercy of the schedule, and that it will 'get there when it gets there.'

However, this IS about me managing my obsession with knowing what's going on with my car. The anticipation is killing me, and these little tracking tips help me retain some level of sanity.

XRAVE is helping me by giving me the info I need to stay sane!

And yes the color combo is great - the only configuration regret I have at the moment is not buying the Drivers Assist Plus and the Lighting pkg. Oh well.

Pics will come for sure once I get to the PCD

I was answering his question, the tracking does not end after the boat. Dispatch has given me info on when the car will arrive but normally BMW's tracking at that point is pretty accurate.

Yes VPC does sometime take longer but the average is not 2 weeks. I believe 3-4 days is the current average for someone who has port installed options.

While obsessing over the car isn't a great thing, it helps us cope with the wait. Also, at this point, my car has been delayed over 2 months. No one seems to know where the car is and knowing when it arrives plays a part in wether or not I have to rent a car.

Like I've mentioned in other posts, ordering BMW's becomes an obsession and a sickness. You'll notice that most people on here are slightly OCD.

Update 5/24 - PCD scheduled for 6/14! They had one spot open on the 8th but I have a commitment that day that I can't change, so the 14th it is...

I'm hoping to keep it. Still a small chance I might have to cancel, but the CA was cool about it - might be on the hook for transportation of the car from the PCD to the dealership if I cancel, but that's it. And honestly that feels fair if I'm canceling because of something out of their control.

Update 6/3 - Signed all the paperwork, stroked a giant check, and am now the proud owner of a car not actually in my posession..

But the wait is almost over! 1.5 weeks left!

I'll be there Friday 6/10/16 after 7 weeks from ED Dropoff. I'm so excited!

Glad you decided to keep the car.

BTW, I like your color combo (see below)

Seriously.

Though, I'll have to admit, I did not call BMW Genius every day like I thought I would. I did, however, signup for marinetraffic.com and had it email me anytime the boat (THALATTA) did anything that resembled getting my car to dock. Oddly, it offloaded at New York, NJ instead of Brunswick, GA, even though I told my CA, BMWNA, anyone who would listen and Loginout that it was going to PDC. I dont think it caused any delays, but still odd. BMW Genius also didn't know why.

That is weird - although shipping logistics are insanely complicated. I don't pretend to understand it all.

And I didn't call the BMW delivery update because it always seemed to be 48 hrs behind the info from the shipping co.
