Just got a Welcome letter with a FOB-style flash drive

Anyone else get this? I've heard of people getting cool little trinkets but I haven't seen this one before.

Its only 2GB tho :/ and it comes preloaded with some BMW videos. One about the HUD, one about the i8, the M initiation, and the 2-series intro.

Funny enough this is for my old F30 I got in September that I don't have anymore.

My dealer has a program where you can come back in after your purchase, and they will go through a tutorial in more detail with you one-on-one for about an hour. Since the dealer is 45 mins from my office, I declined since the iDrive has been pretty easy to figure out. There was a "free gift" as an enticement--I wonder if this was it.

I haven't received anything from BMW after I purchased my car and that was nearly a year ago. The dealer gave a gift basket but nothing from corporate.

Thats the encore delivery, all the dealerships around here wren offering to fill up your tank for free if you did it.

Yup. I went in and got my free tank of gas, learned a few cool things about the car as well.

My wife took the car to the Encore Presentation . Free tank of gas and a BMW umbrella.

I know, I was kinda bummed at the size jump from the e9x to the f3x fobs. Not sure what the larger footprint is getting us outside of not fitting as nicely in my jean's coin pocket.

I don't like the new FOB either, the E90 one was PERFECT.

Maybe they just wanted it to feel more significant in your hand, and they also probably thought people would bitch if you couldn't tell the difference between and old and new car by just the key.

When I picked up my Cadillac ATS in 2013 they gave me a brand new IPad.
I thought THAT was a pretty special gift. Unfortunately the car did not meet expectations.

Yup, my wife is going in this week, more for the free fuel than anything else.

FOB size, I think it's pretty standard, it's pretty much the same size as my S4 key. These things are mini computers/hardrives. They store all the data about the driver settings, from the climate settings to the seat heaters, to what you want displayed on the dash cluster and even if you want the guidelines for the backup camera or not.

Everything stores in the FOB.

Yeah, well that's what it's been taking for them to move that car. It's a nice car, handles well, has nice features, but can't get past the Caddy reputation.

Ive gotten like 3-4 of these over the years of leasing BMW's. Im pretty sure corporate sends it with every new purchase... The older ones (for the e90) look like the e90 key.. pretty cool

At the cost of USB drives nowadays, it was probably cheaper than sending you color-print advertising.

I got a watch from an authorized dealer for Omega and every year they send me full 50+ page catalogs and books, as well as an initial gift which was a dopp kit type of bag. Thats what a luxury experience should be like. My dealer hasnt followed up with me even once. I've gotten absolutely nothing for my purchase, not that its expected, but it would help me be more happy with my purchase.

With my Infiniti I got free all weather mats, and 4 complimentary oil changes and windshield protection coverage. Benz and bimmer, nothing so far.

What's the capacity of the flash drive?

I received one three years ago, when I leased my prior 335i. It was only a gigabyte, which I found awfully disappointing.

A few years later, I'd find that downright insulting. In fact, anything less than 32 is a pretty silly gift for someone who buys a $50k+ car.

Five bucks is my current "buy point" for cheap, eight gig drives that I use to give files to colleagues. I stock up and don't shed a tear if they don't come back.

Lol it says in my OP that its 2GB which is kind of disappointing, the packaging probably cost more.

They weighted it to to make it feel expensive, its pretty heavy.
