I think I was able to code the SAT.

Those are quick shifts.. Almost twin clutch speed. I need to do this.

It is. It's amazing. Shifts almost as quick as my wife's fully loaded 335 m sport and definitely close to my brother M235i. (Yes I have a very BMW family). Definitely worth the coding.

Which 2 EGS settings are you talking about?

The procedure I use to code SAT is as follows:

1. Change option 205 to 2TB in the FA.
2. VO Code the EGS, ICM, and [B]KOMBI.

I don't fuss with all of the FDL codes for this; too many changes and places to make a mistake.

Doing the above provides SAT plus Sport+ mode and it's display in the instrument cluster.

I changed:

EGS/3000/SPORTSCHALTER
EGS/3000/SPORTSCHALTER_ALT

Changing the FA is what I was talking about earlier. That I did not do, but probably will after I get the car back. So this may be a stupid question, but how do you change 205 to 2TB in the FA?

Finally, what are the options that should be changed in KOMBI and ICM? I have DHP, so Sport+ should be activated already.

Thanks!

Those 2 settings only enable the S1-S8 display on the cluster. They are part of SAT, but do not actually enable it.

To fully enable SAT, do the following:

Do the following:

Kombi => 300C ECO_FDS =>Function

FDS_MENUE_TEXT_1=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_1=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_TEXT_2=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_2=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_TEXT_3=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_3=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_TEXT_4=> menue_3
FDS_MENUE_SIGNAL_4=> menue_3

ICM Module/ 3000 Daten/ IcmKod_B_Sportlenkung/ verbaut

EGS/3000 Applikation -> Sportschalter_alt -> aktiv
EGS/3000 Applikation -> Sportschalter -> aktiv

ICM/IcmKod_B_S2TBA -> verbaut

It will activate sport+ and sport transmission )))
Or you also could add 2TB option and delete 205 in salapa element
Rather than code all of these, I just do the last line. I change 205 to 2TB and VO Code the KOMBI, ICM, and EGS. Much simpler, safer, and faster.

Is there a tutorial or instruction to change 205 to 2TB? I'm still sort of new to coding and all I have done so far is FDL coding and ticking a few options here and there.

You need to read this:

Thanks Shawn!

I just read the doc and got a question for either you or Frogman.

Will changing the FA also VO code the three modules in question as well?

No, that just sets things up.

Once you change the option code(s), go back to the coding screen, using the newly edited FA.

Make sure the SVT is read in and the FA is active (like you would when you FDL code).

Right click on the ECU you want to VO code (e.g. EGS), and select Code. Repeat for each ECU (ICM and KOMBI).

The will set the default values for the ECU based on the FA/VO; hence VO Coding.

If you had previously custom FDL coded any of the ECU's you just VO coded, you will need to re-FDL code them as VO coding will clear your custom settings.

One Note: In step 3, you have to Save the FA before you try to Edit it. The Edit button will be disabled (grayed out) until you save the FA.

You might also want to disable the updating of the VCM and MSM before you do any FA changes so that they are not written back to the car.

Perhaps there wasnt much wisdom to what I just did...

So I got a little impatient and coded SAT to my 320i loaner using the instructions provided by Frogman and Shawnsheridan.

It looks good, the engine turns, and tranny shifts. I'm about to take it for a test drive, but I took a peek at all the coded modules and the relevant settings for BKOMBI, EGS, and ICM have changed to their SAT values.

Thanks for all for the help!

LOL, coding loaners!! Dealers love that! You should definitely code it back to factory settings before you return it.

My last loaner was that way; an X3 with Nav, but not activated, so it was useless. I was just about to activate it when I got the call that my car was ready, so I didn't do it.

I have some bad news for you guys. I ,ve tested SAT mode it actually produces slower 1/4 times, maybe without reflash it might be ok, but I started doing some serious testing (as in racelogic, datalog and gopro filming) high octane with JB4 stage 2 and the car was actually .5 seconds or more slower in this mode.

My idea is that the tune is not capable of keeping boost steady with the quicker shift points and there is actually some weird transmission snap/hesitation that slows the car down quite a bit at high rpms 5500 -6000rpm. This with the reflash on, its kind of like knocking at high rpms. I reverted back to the normal DS capable shifting and the car is faster, smoother shifts and the turbo (JB4 stage 2 enabled) spools nice and smooth at high rpms.

So, If you like quick downshifts and do not care about peak horsepower at high rpms do SAT. If you like a broader stronger smoother power curve that actually is quicker (with reflash) keep stock settings, and just enable sport+ if your 320 did not come with it.

let me know your comments...

I noticed that it does hold the RPMs until the point in the power band where the power just drops like the car loses it's guts. However in manual mode I got different results than you. I did the same testing in manual mode and when shifting around 5800-6k RPMs it's faster than my 320 without SAT. And I am also running a stage 2 JB4.

I've wondered about this myself - I have a 320i w/ SAT and Sport + coded. I've noticed that you get really quick, smooth shifts at high rpms if you back off the throttle a bit, but if you keep your foot planted there is a significant hesitation/jolt. Wonder if its a torque limit to protect the transmission.

wow interesting theory, I didnt try it with throttle modulation...just planted wot and got horrible acceleration times and hesitation/jolt

Wait a minute, what are you guys saying? It's worse with SAT? What you describe does not sound good. I mean, what exactly is being said here? That the car is slower overall, or that it hiccups under WOT or what?
