I was very deflated after my meeting with the Service Manager yesterday.
I was made to feel that I simply had to live with it. Then rage set-in at night and I emailed Tim Abbott. Have not heard from him as yet.

Matthew Bacon's email should be:
matthew.bacon@bmw.co.uk

I'll give it a couple of days, then re-send the email with a copy to Norbert Reithofer.

This is an unnecessary waste of time and energy.

I do agree but putting pressure on BMW will get results and hopefully improve QC.

Had a courtesy call from the local dealer who interestingly inform me that they are now in further discussion with BWCS regarding the seat. It seems they are re-visiting the issue in a slightly different manner in order to instigate a more permanent fix. I wonder if my letter (with gory pictures, of course) to Tim Abbott, MD BMW UK, has made them change tact?

I gave my car in on Tuesday 2nd January. I now have no idea when I'll be getting it back or what is being done to it. I will be getting a daily update from the Service Dept. Thank goodness I still have my trusted GTI.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for a response from Tim Abbott.

Glad it's happening for you. I am still stuck between the devil (BMW) and the deep blue (EBII) sea.

How do you like the 330d? It's a big SOAB compared to the F20.

I rang the local dealer Service Dept as I wished to know what was happening as I did not get the phone call I expected yesterday. I was told that the car was ready for collection. The Leather Specialist had a look, it seems, did what he could, it seems, which was not very much.

BMWCS have instructed the dealer not to do any work on the car and that they will be directly in touch with me which they have not. The dealer thought they would have done so already. So I am back to square one with a baggy driver's seat and a colour mis-matched rear bumper. Not a good result.

Spoke to the Sales Manager of the supplying dealer. A manager from BMWCS is going to call him on Monday to discuss my car. I've told him that I want to reject the car and they can take it away if they cannot fix these two problems.

It's a red and blue lemon. The way I feel at the moment is I don't want the shoddy thing anymore.

Is this just a case of buyers remorse? You reported that you got a £7k discount on this car, probably twice as much as any other forum member got. Why not get the front seats professionally retrimmed and the rear bumper resprayed? You'd still have gotten a better deal than most. Happy days.

So what and why should I? Just because I got a good discount, must I put up with shoddy workmanship? Or, people who have got good deals should get badly made cars? What's that got to do with quality control? One car is perfect, the other is not. Where is the consistency? Anyway, I am not going to argue the point any further as it is pointless.

All I'm saying is life is too short to get bent out of shape by minor colour matches and 'sat in' leather. From the numerous rant posts this is obviously getting under your skin.......is it really worth it?

I think you've said enough.
It's my car that has faults, not yours.

I understand where you are coming from F30AM. I've had no end of rattle/creaks/sweak issues with my E90 from new and its drives you round the fookin bend in the end. It's a NEW CAR so it should be 100% right, no questions. Whether its a 10 grand Fiesta or £40K+ BMW - a new car should be PERFECT as far as I'm concerned. But in order to get it perfect you have to keep taking it back to the dealer time and time again which gets tiring as well as wasting a lot of time.

I'd honestly hate to think how many thousands its cost in BMWs time rectifying the faults I've raised with my car over the last 15 months.

Thanks for your support. Much appreciated. I totally sympathise with you for your problems. At least your dealer was helpful.

I feel I am not being unreasonable to expect high quality from a Premium Make which BMW purports to be.

I have aired my problems on this forum which is what it is here for. I don't take kindly when these are termed as rants. This is disrespectful and uncalled for. Manners maketh the man.

Well that is the issue, every EBII M Sport F30 has exactly the same faults as yours, mine included. What you are talking about is a subjective quality level.

As for 'said enough' this is a public forum, you don't always get everyone agreeing with you. Posting anything opens you up to other members opinions, whether you like them or not.

I guess as most people accept that bumper paint won't match the BIW paint, they don't gripe about it. I found it amusing that the new golf ad on TV has a different shade front bumper. That is on the specially prepared ad car (metallic silver), so just imagine what the production cars will look like. Check it out. Maybe VW did that to avoid false advertising claims

The only plastic part painted that I am aware of (This happens to be my trade) with the BIW is the fuel filler cap. This although plastic is made from an expensive grade able to withstand the temperatures of the BIW paint bake. Similar plastic was used in the past on Freelander and Renault megane front wings. Again used to avoid the exact same problem you are talking about, but these have gone back to being metal due to the cost of the plastic wings.

Similarly with natural leather. If you want the type that is more resistant to stretch you buy leatherette or Mercedes case Artico. If you search for threads mentioning Artico you will come across the fans that won't buy leather, and now favour Artico as leather 'ages' quickly. Pardon the pun but an 'age old problem'.

Yes your car is new and in an ideal world the seat would come un-stretched, but fact is, the car has had a number of bums in seat on it's journey from production line to delivery. A level of stretch is inevitable.

Good luck with the goodwill BMW will no doubt show you.

Apologies if I mis-judged what constitutes a rant, but the number of threads on the same issues on both main and UK forums and comments like this constitute a rant to me.

F30AM, I have to say you appear to be far happier with your Golf, based on comments in your various posts. It may be a good outcome for you if they took the car back and you hung on to the GTi....

Can they not just swap the seat with one from a perfect car and its all sorted?

Maybe reject and a get a Mk7 Gti?

johnbmw6: It is the same Matthew Bacon who is supposed to call me and/or get in touch with the supplying dealer on Monday. So I am told.

NISFAN: Just because other's are in the same boat, does not make it right. So all those with rusty seat bases, baggy seats, mis-matched rear bumper paintwork, faulty navs etc, should grin and bear it as they are thus part of the crowd? I personally don't agree with the suitability of such an approach.

Spacebug: It is not an outcome I really want as the F30 is a great car to propel but it needs to shape-up to its premium aspirations. I feel I am being reasonable in expecting a better standard of workmanship.

davyk31: Swapping seats would be too easy and too customer focused a solution. My primary mistake was I took the car to the local dealership who really did not want to get involved at the outset. I should have just shipped the car back to the supplying dealer who seem to be more customer focused.
