I don't feel guilting for driving a BMW. I do feel guilty when inadvertently act as a stereotypical BMW driver - accidentally cut someone off, forget to use a turn signal, don't stop at cross-walk when I should, etc.

For my no emissions' control devices special, nice day daily driver. I love the smell of an unencumbered exhaust in the morning. It smells like screw the EPA.

This whole guilt thing is just nutz. Maybe we need a micro aggression & guilt trip driven safe zone for some BMW owners. The rest of us can just keep on, keeping on enjoying our guilt free lives.

LOL.

I'm an honest, law abiding citizen..but even I'd consider carjacking you for your Cobra . That thing is just bad-ass.

Guilt? Hmm...I would suspect that one has experienced an "abaissement de niveau mentale" accompanied by "participation mystique". Such problems are very common when one has not read the owner's manual for the human psyche....

To be more explicit: "PARTICIPATION MYSTIQUE is a term derived from Lévy-Bruhl. It denotes a peculiar kind of psychological connection with objects, and consists in the fact that the subject cannot clearly distinguish himself from the object but is bound to it by a direct relationship which amounts to partial identity."

With respect to our topic today, the guilt results from a two-fold identity binding in the subject (the BMW owner): both to the BMW and to the presence of envy/jealousy in the surrounding community as one drives along imagining that one is somehow better off than others...

Thanks for the kind words about the car.

BTW In addition to only requiring one license plate, a great gift to car owners who don't want the front of their cars screwed up, NC is also a concealed carry state.

If you worked for it yourself, honestly, made no money on the backs of anyone nor took any handouts... FUCK EVERYBODY ELSE. This is the fruit of labor.

LOL...probably a good thing cruising that beast around

I'm gonna hit up Jay Leno's garage in the next month or so; I haven't looked if he has one but I'm hoping he'll take me for a ride in one of his beasts; His steam powered cars are fun but a beast is much more fun.

Don't feel an ounce of guilt after having worked hard to finish my Masters. Felt good to reward myself.

Don't feel guilty. A 320 can be leased for under $300/mo.... There are people paying more than that to own a base corolla.

Don't feel guilty now.

However I did during the first few months of my purchase.
I'm 22 years old. I've gotten so much BS from Friends, Family members etc about buying a $50K+ vehicle at this age.
I'm in School and work Full-Time, make enough money to afford my Loan.

All I have to say is F**k the haters and chive on.

What's the old saying..."What others think of you is none of your business." The important thing here is whether or not you enjoy and appreciate your car. After all, it's only a thing, albeit BMW's are very nice things. I love my 435xi MSport, and for me, that's all that matters

Not even sure why this thread even exists
If you feel guilty about owning and driving a BMW.. then sell it or get over it.

I'm not sure what field you are in, but one of the pieces of advice I give those who are trying to enter my field is to be fearless and flexible when it comes to your career and to not let your level of lifestyle limit your choices. Again, this is highly dependent on your field, BUT, in my case, being saddled with a $50k car would have been a handicap back when I was starting out.

Case in point: I had colleges who drove nicer cars than me and wanted a bigger TV, a nicer apartment, etc etc straight out of college. They drove BMWs, I drove a POS Honda. They felt they had to turn down the jobs that didn't afford their lifestyle; they had car payments and rent to make after all. I kept it simple and chose the jobs that I felt took me in the right direction rather than what was the highest paying at the time. 10 years later and now I drive the more expensive car, I have the bigger house, and I command the bigger salary than some of my colleagues. Lesson? Your lifestyle should fit your career, not the other way around. Just a little piece of advice I give the young green rookies coming in. Most don't listen. Ever wonder why there are more underlings than bosses? More economy cars than sports cars?

Thank you. I Appreciate the effort and advice. I'm in the IT Industry. My first car was a 09 Nissan Sentra Manual Trans that got totaled last winter storm in East Coast. I've always had my eyes on the F30 since my Senior year in High School. Hard work and staying humble is starting to pay off now. Well slowly.
