BMW dealer changing the price on delivery

Hello all,
Just wanted some feedback, I am purchasing one of the last 340i zero km f30.
I was quoted a price, contract emailed. I went through BMW finance which strangely they knocked me back (had 3 previous cars with them all new), so I source the funds elsewhere and at 1/2 the interest rate.
The dealer was pushing for me to get other funding, which I did, they then upped the price by $5500 and telling me it's because BMW finance didn't approve me and they lost some bonus from them.
Now, on the contract there is nothing detailing a price dependent on BMW finance approving the loan.
So, over the phone they reduced the $5500 to $3200, yes I suppose it's still a good buy, BUT the principal is they should have thought of that before giving me the quote and now I feel penalised due to their finance company stuff up.
So, still stuck, they won't refund the deposit (which I have an email saying they would refund it) of $2000.
I have not signed anything yet either.
Any ideas please

Cheers

Write the them a letter asking for your deposit to be returned to the specific bank account within 7 days and that you reserve your right to take further action if this doesn't occur.

If they don't return the funds I would either lodge a fair trading claim (nsw?) or small claims court . Personally if the documentation is in your favour, small claims may provide the incentive for them to take action.

Did you end up paying more? Did he honor the original quote?
I do want the car, but won't get it unless they stick with the original quote.
The emotional bombardment I have been on the phone with the dealer is reminiscent to those time share salesmen.
It has taken the fun out of getting this car.
Yes the price diff if $3200 isn't much but geez, if I quoted someone and told them at the moment of paying that it's now $5500 more, I'm sure my customer would feel pissed.

If the contract stipulates a driveaway price without any dependencies on BMW Finance, then the dealer should honour the agreed price.

If the dealer will not honour the agreed contract, because it hasn't been signed, then the contract becomes null and void. In the absence of a binding contract, the dealer has no basis to keep the deposit.

So ask for your deposit back in writing, and find a another dealer.

They want $73200 for it with my 320d as trade in. Even though my car is a 2012, it is loaded with options that I selected when I ordered it, I have not seen any 320d's with the options I have on it on carsales and the dealer says they won't get $20k for it even though it has 55000 k's. I have seen less optioned cars with similar km's for $35k.
The dealer says it's $110k retail, the thing is, there are some 340i demo cars on carsales in NSW with around 3 to 4 thousand k's on them for between $75k and $85K. I think $70k with the trade in, is an acceptable price imo, specially since it has every option I wanted on it. (except the heated steering and heated rear seats)
My missus also doesn't agree as she thinks it looks exactly as what we already have (they are both alpine white) which has caused other issues, which means I cannot accept the $73k and have to compromise and stick with the agreed (by family) $70k. (she would prefer me to keep the 320d and buy a Z4 or trade it in for a 440i vert - which, imo, means less luggage capacity)
I will write them an email as they are not even calling me back like they said they would 2 days ago. Btw, this has been going on since February 19.

Offer max 70 for this you will probably get it .

340i will depreciate so so hard i cant recommend you paying 90k + for it at this stage.. 2 years ago yep.

Now when you say all options what does it have ? Individual leather etc .. because otherwise 340is come fully loaded. If you really love it stick to your budget they will budge.

Amazing step up
If it has mppsk and all the m perfomance bit then of course you have to change the equation a bit.

why are you upgrading for a full price 3 series? for 20k+70k you can get yourself a dealer demo/used 5 series? the 3 series is at the end of its life cycle and will go through massive discounts (if not already) as they'll be clearing stock for the G-series

The reason for the upgrade is that I quite like the f30, I test drove the new 5 and it felt too big. The e90 was awful and sterile and the e46 was so much fun, I get that same fun drive from the f30 and the 6 cylinder engine makes it even more fun (damn I might be going through mid life)

This particular car is very unique to me, I approached another dealer days before this one and he did a stock search for any 340i's with the 6WB multifunction display option and only 4 cars showed up with it.

That option is standard on the 440i now, but quite a rare thing in a 3 series imo. Some people do retro fits as I have seen on these forums.

There's are other things with the car that make it quite unique to me and it's basically exactly the type of car I want (with two minor options missing). I had another talk today and still they won't budge, so most likely will not buy it, but still haven't made up my mind.

Drove it today too, it's quite a nice drive compared to the 320d, road noise seemed louder in the cabin, but the 19" rims with the adaptive suspension sure was soft enough to absorb the bumps.

I have also noticed that the new car price in carsales has dropped from 106k to 103k this week.

Can't you order these to spec anymore? If you are paying top dollar you should be able to get what you want.

Well, there was an article on these forums on the 21 February announcing the last f30 made and the end of its production.

Funny enough the dealer said to me that I can still order one, but production in South Africa has ended.

The car has more stuff in it than I would have ordered it with, the dash inclusion from factory gives it a uniqueness to me, being that only 4 were available in BMW stock here in Australia.

A bit like the e39 540i, in 2003 there were only 7 540i's sold in Australia, and try and find one with heated seats, well there's one in 2001 that I have seen for sale (a hobby of mine), since BMW probably thought it was not something buyers would like here in Australia so they didn't include it unless someone asked for it. European 540i's seem to have it, same as US cars.

It's not an individual car specifically made to how I want (my current 320d one I ordered specifically) but to me it's like stumbling upon a factory specified car that is the end of it's production line, that has a few options that hardly any other f30 has. It doesn't stand out in a crowd, but I don't like it to show off, I like it because in my eyes it's quite unique. Or so I think it is, if someone can correct me, it could steer me away from this in another direction.

Don't know if what I'm saying makes sense.

Makes sense mate. However if the digi dash is the only reason its"s very easy plug and play retrofit if you look up some threads. They might get back to you this week asking to meet halfway.

Also consider a slightly used m3 but its a slightly compromised car if you never end up using the potential.

That only affects production at the Rosslyn plant in South Africa (F30 production has ceased so that the plant can be switched to X3 production).
The F30 will continue to be produced at other BMW plants around the world, until the G20 starts production in 2019.

Here's the Rosslyn plant article...

Do you still own an E39? It is definitely one of my favourite BMWs of all time, it is such a nice cruiser and very solid build.

Very nice, you have kept it well.

This was my previous 540i - I sold it late last year, missed it so much and bought another one.

Hey guys,
The dealer came back with $72k + my 2012 320d (optioned out). Is this a good deal for a 340i with VSS, digital dash, m sport, etc. Zero km.

If I were you, I would just sell the 320d for 20 something thousand and get a slightly used F80 M3.. And that would work out to be cheaper than the 340i.

Imo, the digital dash is nice to have but not a necessity. Also depreciation.. First owner and end of life cycle.. Ouch!

+1 you should try to sell it privately first as your 320d is all specced up, definitely get more than trading it.

There is a benefit of getting a spanking brand new 340i as opposed to a used F80 M3 - new car smell, virginity, warranty, not being thrashed etc etc

I had the 320d looked at by a friend that deals in second hand cars and said I'd be looking at $25k max due to the age, km done and the large number of cheaper cars available.
Even though I have seen other less specced cars for over $30k he said they will not sell.
If that's the case, this new 340i would be $97k with the trade in.
That's the question in my head, I think I'm better off waiting till the end of the year to save more. Feels like I'm not getting a bargain as I'm told by the dealer who says the car is $110k.
Hence me wanting your opinions as BMW enthusiast as to wether this is a good deal.

I have to answer tonight, so far I'm not going ahead but still doubtful that I might.
