My Rear Swaybar: I am so confused!

Hello BMW Experts!
Pls bear with me for this embarrassing question.

2017 330i, stock suspension.
Q: Where is my rear swaybar!!

I just bought 25/22 front & 15mm rear bars, & brought them to my mechanic to put in (thanks BMW...). He just called & said the 4-cyl cars have no rear bar.
Well blow me down! I never imagined.

From BMWoem:
No. Description Supp. Qty From Up To Part Number Price Notes
For vehicles with M Sports suspension S704A=Yes
01 Stabilizer, rear D=13MM 1 33556853474
02 Stabilizer rubber mounting D=13MM 2 33356792197

Only cars with the M Sport suspension get a rear bar?

You need a different mechanic.
And the F30s are not easy to install - both front and rear subframes need to be dropped.

Well if I read it correctly (& per IK's post), only 330i's with M-sport suspension get a rear bar.

BMWoem lists the front differently:

01 Stabilizer front with rubber mounting
1 31306869290

For vehicles with Adaptive M suspension
or
M Sports suspension
S2VFA=Yes

S704A=Yes
01 Stabilizer front with rubber mounting 1 31306869291

Bolded 9290 seems to be for cars with bog-stock suspension, like me!

Yes the 330i seems to have had a rear sway bar only up through June 2016 production.

From July 2016 production there is no part number.

Regardless, that does not mean you can't install the sway bar. You need to order all the rest of the parts.

330ix appears to have a rear sway bar across the whole production run.

Thanks Jim,

That was my next question: whether I can bolt one onto my car. While the bog-stock cars like mine have no rear bar, the sport or m-tech or m-sport optioned cars do.
So buy a few brackets & bushings, and I'll have my rear bar!

Hello BMW Experts!

I see no reason why a rear anti-sway bar won't bolt right on to my car ('17 330i, stock susp). It's an option (704), and many other cars with my subframe have a rear bar.
Am I missing something? Has anyone actually done this or looked for the needed bolt holes?

Murf (wondering why my mechanic isn't getting back to me about this....)

Back in 1994 my Civic Coupe EX didn't have a rear bar so I found a loaner Integra Type R and used it's rear control arm assemblies and rear bar. This gave my Civic mounting provisions for the rear bar (on the control arms) plus an upgrade to rear disc brakes.

Are you sure the rear subframe needs to be dropped?

Positively. The sway bar is tucked between the subframe and the chassis.

Here's a DIY:

Thanks for the DIY. Looking to add a rear bar to my 2014 328i (assuming I don't have one either?)

Anyone know what part number (after market or OEM) that are a direct bolt on to a 2014 with base suspension?

No problem.

I think that you should have one already. Here is a very useful thread which shows how each model is equipped.

Thanks. You just saved me a set of rear sway bars. There is no way I am dropping my sub-frame. If I did not like the sways, I would have to drop the sub-frame again. No thank you.
