Car Insurance

Unfortunetly time of year has come to renew my car insurance and my current company wants nearly triple what I paid last year, been sent qoute just over £1270, bit of a insult been honest, checked the usual websites and looks like the best comes up to £640 for a year which is still more then last year but more managable and still belive there is better out there, 14 years of NCD, and not a spring chicken nearly magic 4 at the front , so anyone recently renew and had a better experiance then my self? If you can recommend someone please let me know.

Many Thanks
Ade

I went through confused.com as they still pay cashback, unlike the insurance companies direct.

It depends on the car and the postal code of course, but on a £30k 128ti a few months back I paid £420 - helps to put the other half on it - apparently shes less risk than me (you should see her drive )

All I can add to this is the magic “buy insurance 21 days ahead” claim spouted by Martin Lewis is bull.
Keep checking quotes, I was struggling for a good quote this year and bought 1 week before mine was due and it had dropped £200.

Always seems a bit pointless different people comparing insurance prices IMO.
Everybody's 'risk' is completely different therefore so are the premiums.

I will be paying £255 a year for a Type R, but it doesn't mean anything to anyone else.

About the same. For some reason (probably because I'm old, the wife is fairly old and we have a million years of NCB and no points for over 15 years) my insurance is dirt cheap on anything TBH. It won't last!

I have never claimed on car insurance, ever. Not even a windscreen. The windscreen claims can make quite a big difference from what I've seen. I have a mate who lives in the same postcode, he is five years older than me, and his premiums are way more than mine but has claimed for three windscreens in the past.

I think I could insure an Enzo for about a fiver!

Have you tried A-Plan? They're quite sensible with modifications too. If you're a member of the BMW Car Club of GB, then you may get discounted on that too.

Yeah I get that everyone risk is different, but was interested if someone recently get insurance and come a cross company that was better then another if you know what I mean specially for BMW, my situation didn't change one bit so can't understand price rise, last year I was able to insure my car for £416 this year cheapest is £641. Has 4 series become more popular to thieves?

I'm one of the lucky ones, other half prefers not to drive, bad experience when very young.

She may prefer not to drive, but does she ever? Are you putting her on your quotes? Mine usually only drives back from the nights out on the odd occasion but adding her on mine dropped my price 40%

If she has a licence, it still may be cheaper to add her as a named driver, even if she never drives it!

May we assume no accidents? If so, tripling your premium can only be down to them rezoning where you live as a high risk location. Over here it's called the zip code lottery.

It could just be us all getting screwed across the board by the insurance companies, every other business is doing the same. From reading regular posts on the cutters forum/Facebook groups there’s lots of ridiculous increases or even renewal refusals recently, yes mostly M cars on there & some of the owners are ridiculously young. A Plan gets mentioned a lot for decent quotes, dreading my renewal in July!

A few material factors at play here in terms of insurance premiums we’re all paying. Costs incurred by insurers have gone up significantly over the last 12 months, driven by inflation on parts and labour, alongside significant increases in vehicle hire costs plus higher new/used car prices in total loss claims where vehicles require to be replaced rather than repaired, hence why e.g. Direct Line made a £45m loss in 2022. New premiums have risen to reflect these costs, with the year-on-year price increases being amplified by lower 2021/22 premiums directly resulting from reduced mileage and accident rates during the pandemic.

Yeah I did, but insurance premium are done allegedly on risk factors of driver 🤔 and we already had problem with cars prices last year, so nothing has change on that front, to me looks like they raise premiums just because they can and following the same map as utility firms.
