You can go to any dealer, it doesn't need to be the one that sold it to you.

The short answer is yes. The UAC warranty is from BMW, not the dealer.

I've found that forming a relationship with the supplying dealer has been very helpful. In my case the service manager seems to appreciate customers which are really into their cars, and he takes a very sensible approach to warranty and modifications.

I have the same issue here in Belgium with my F31 328i built date december 2012 - model 2013.
Sent today foto's to the dealer my car is just a little more than 5 years old.
I have seen it before that the rubber has a strange bubble at the end but now when it has shrinked more now there is a complete hole in the door so i dont want to car-wash it anymore until there is a fix . I think when it rains there is a lot of water coming in. Think i will tape it for now
Hope they will replace it in warranty

Hello,

I have sent photos to the dealer by mail and the response was a cc to a internal mail to someone at the dealership and there the responsable asked to make a appointment with me to replace the rubber but first ask the technical service (at BMW Belgium i think) whats the procedure to claim this under warranty. Until now i didnt have had any response yet . We are no 10 days after my mail so i will waiit for now . Next week there is here a holiday on Tuesday so Monday will be for a lot of people a bridge day so a short week. if i have no response end of next week i will call them. I can see between the 2 metals of my doors when it is raining the water is dripping between the inner and outer plates .What i dont understand if this is a known issue why this is not yet replaced when the car is in the Dealershi for yearly oil change and switching summer - Winter Tyres ??? Even this is a question that i want to know. If there is news i let it know on this forum.Grtz

Thanks for the info, appreciated.

Was asking because I'm having the same problem as you and my car is of roughly the same age now. I went to dealer the other day and they were doubtful whether it would be covered anymore given the age of the car. I didn't have the car with me so we couldn't file a request and was just wondering whether it would be worth the effort.

I'm guessing the previous owners have been lazy and/or not paying attention to the issue, and the dealership not actively suggesting a replacement without complaining doesn't really surprise.

I have bought the Car Brand new so i am the first Owner maybe this is a difference a friend of mine has bought a 535d Touring and he told me that he found the rubbers at my back not nice . Before the bib bubble wich needs to be in the door was already coming up so i tought this was normal. but now i am thinking i am sure this is already there for a while but now i have seen that the whole bubble is out of the door. But my issue why if they know that there is a known issue why it isnt already changed without my complain was there. This is something what i will ask also to the dealer . Let sure know the result. grtz

In that case you should definitely ask and press them, especially seeing as visual inspection is part of the scheduled maintenance they should have noticed that the seals need replacing, it's a common issue after all so they should be familiar with it. The shrinking of the seals doesn't happen overnight so I'm sure if it's that bad at the moment it's been there for quite some time already.

Dealer has send me a email after almost 3 weeks that BMW agree to give a discount on the parts for 30% and the dealership will also give 30% and will make a arrangement for working hours.
So replacing both sides will cost me 200€ excl. VAT
Not sure if it is the correct price seems still very expensive for 2 stupid rubbers. So i am not sure what i will do.
Maybe i will ask another BMW dealer just for the price of the rubbers so i can compare if the prices are correct.
Dont understand why this is not done automaticly by call back action since it is a known issue.
I keep intouch.
I have a lot of problems with the car wich are not solved in warranty:

1.
When outside there is a lot of moisture in the air the front windows are verry fast damping . Sometimes when i have used the car for +-15 min and park it for shor time (less than 2 hours) and use it again the moment i press start the complete front window and side windows are almost completly damped on so you cannot start because you see nothing . After +- 30 seconds it is gone. But is it not possible to start directly because of the visibility.

2.Rain sensor is not working right when it is set completly up so the most sensitive position sometimes the whole window is covered by rain so i need to force it to work because it is not fast enough.

On above points 1 and 2 there was been a inpector from BMW that has asked me to bring in the car for 2 days to try to fix it . But no result .

3. The Mirrors when the are folding in at some temperatures is makes a scratching noise and they could not do anytng about it .

4. Winter Wheels and Tyres. Bought when ordered the car . Seems that the tyres have not the correct speed index. So the tyres have a H wich is max 210Km/h and the car can go to 250 km/h. They didnt told me this !!!! has to be W, Y or Z

5. now the rubbers …...

So i am not verry happy about everything and how it has been not solved !!!

Hiya chap, bit of a thread resurrection....

Did you get this sorted by the dealer at all? Just noticed it on my 2015 F30 & wondering whether I stand any hope of getting it rectified by the dealer even though the 3 year warranty expired 4 months ago. I’ve got the extended warranty but I understand that this excludes seals...

If they don’t sort it, warm the seal with an hair dryer and firmly push the seal with palm of your hand from the pillar to the rear of the car. The seal will reach back to where it belongs and using a strong but flexible rubber safe adhesive apply a bead under the end of the rubber just above where it tucks into the door panel. Secure with strong tape while the glue cures. The rubber will then stay in place.

What's the PUMA number that was talked about earlier in this thread?

I'd also like to know this, as my 2014 F31 has the issue on both rear doors.

You may not need the PUMA number - my rear door seals were replaced as a warranty item by the dealer a few years back, with no quibble.

I'm out of warranty, is it a DIY project? Anyone buy the parts and do it?

Just to update, I fixed it. The seal can be released on the inside of the door, but will still be in a channel on the outside of the door. This did allow good access to warm up both sides of it with a heat gun. I stretched it until it was in place and used automotive adhesive to keep it there. I held it in place with painters tape while the adhesive cured.

Hopefully it will last through the winter cold and remain permanent.
