328 Engine Rattle Noise?
Hi Guys,
Just want to ask if this is normal. Picked up my 328 a week ago. When i drive it at start the engine is a little loud, kind of sounds like a diesel engine. But after awhile of driving, say 5 minutes it goes away. Just wondering if this is normal? It is less apparent on sport or comfort mode. |

That's perfectly normal, it sounds like a diesel on startup, kind of like a tractor. Once its running for some time, the engine sounds silky smooth, maybe changing the exhaust can cloak the rachet & clutter from the engine noise.

I have driven over 2500km since I picked up my F31 328i on 9 Aug. not much driving to my standard at all. I haven't really running into red line at all. I used the paddle shifter a lot on my accord euro but not much in my F31 and even shifting to manual.
The engine has the gut so enjoy it,

It's nice to know this is normal as it was worrying me also.
I don't give it a tough time until it's up to temp but once it is up to temp...well you know where I'm headed. Having just come from an Evo IX I understand the importance of a gentle warm up for the turbo. Let's just say it's spending a lot of time in sport + ATM!

Break in period? Maybe 500kms to bed the brakes otherwise drive it how you want best to rev it up and down constant revs should be avoided but to be honest there is no advised break in period personally I drive every new car as normal and never had a problem
