Part of me thinks if he'd driven on, the incident would have been less serious - why do so many people seem to get out of their cars on the ring?! Mad.

It's hard to say what would have happened had he not stopped, however, he did seem rather keen to stop and get out when it wasn't necessary and he could have easily continued much further at a slow pace.

I know we've come across a couple of clowns at track days but there seems to be a large number of people who frequent the Nurburgring and just don't give a f***

I'd love to give it a go but I'm paranoid of some fool taking me out while travelling backwards around a corner!

Best time to go is midweek, nowhere near any kind of public holiday.

Somehow, some people were saying it was the guy with the camera's fault for stopping!? Can't see it myself.

Never saw anything as bad as that when I used to go. I bet it's greasy as sin this time of year, and it's like an ice rink.
This is crazy but I did wonder that. There was only one car crashed when he pulled up and added an obstruction plus started slowing people down which clearly turned into uncontrolled stopping then his car was hit and that was that.

I suppose to answer comes from historic data, when someone breaks down does it normally lead to a massive pile up?

Incidents like this happen quite frequently due to something I call the Gran Turismo mentality.

You get people that have never driven on a road with no speed limit who are not familiar with it's rules, have no idea about ring etiquette, and have probably seldom to never driven cars well into triple digits for a long duration of time.
On top of this they also forget that unless it's a closed day the ring is still a public highway.

These kind of people have clocked up amazing lap times in cars they have probably never driven in real life on their PlayStation's and think they know the road like the back of their hand and can do it with their eyes closed.
What they don't understand is that their games console does not simulate things like the real life geometry of the road, surface camber, brake fade, tyre wear, locking up in the wet, etc.

I learnt this lesson the hard way when I was a teenager on his first road trip to the ring with his friends in his S14a 200SX which died on Schwedenkreuz when I lost control and spun out ricocheting into three cars.

I wonder how many hundreds/thousands of cars have died on that corner!?

I reckon it's a Dutchman speaking German. His accent clearly sounds Dutch, and his first utterance - 'Hast du angeruft?' - isn't correct German (should be 'angerufen'). The second thing he says - 'hinter de[r] Planke' - is again a bit approximate (should be 'Leitplanke').

Not that this is relevant to the topic.

That explains the carnage.....he should have used the correct German, instead of causing confusion with the drivers.

I also thought his hand waving motion was inappropriate. The waving pattern he was using means "go faster" in Finland.

Lol, not relevant at all but fun nonetheless Not everyone speaks the Queens English here, similar over there as well.
