BMW F30 328d coming to US?
It is very probably the 2.0 L4 bi-turbo diesel (and will feature twin tailpipes like the 328i). So it most likely seems as though the F30 US range will feature: 328i (245ps), 328d (218ps, called 325d in Europe), 335i (306ps) and 335d (313ps). |

Interesting. According to the earlier thread, BMW supposedly confirmed we were getting a 4 cyl, 180hp (20d) and a 6 cyl, 255hp unit not currently sold in other markets. Maybe that's the one that they will call the 328d.
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=Diesel I don't think they will bring back the 335d. It didn't sell very well as an E90, its mission was maybe more to establish the performance cred of diesels in the US. Plus, I don't think there's room for another performance oriented fuel miser now that we will have the AH3. |

If the pic above is of a prototype/pre-production model, I'm curious why they'd go to the trouble of sticking a 328d badge on the trunk rather than just leaving it un-badged or with a 320d badge so as to not give anything away?
Agreed, a 328d would look nicer with twin tailpipes

I wish the US had more diesel options. This could be a very good addition.

If that isn't a US rebadged 325d (218ps) then it's a US rebadged 330d (258ps). It's one or the other engine, but there is no way it would be a rebadged 320d (184ps), even though the test prototype only wears one apparent tailpipe.

a rebadged 320d wouldn't surprise me. americans aren't too savvy with the engine size marketing scheme. the earlier thread did say BMW had confirmed a 180hp/280tq 2.0 diesel for the US- that would be the 320d motor, no?

I would have rather imagined a US range only offering 200ps+ engines (no 320d) and clearly mirroring its 2 gasoline/diesel halves in order to appear more legible to the customers:
* 4-bangers: 245ps 328i // 218ps 328d (= 325d in Europe) * 6-bangers: 306ps 335i // 313ps 335d. But supposing that only 2 diesels are planned for the US including the 184ps 320d, then it is very likely that this 328d is actually not the European 4-banger 218ps 325d but the European 6-banger 258ps 330d, otherwise the 2 diesels (184ps and 218ps) wouldn't be set apart enough. So my guess is that the 328d will be what is worldwide known as the 330d, regardless of the single tailpipe tip that this trial prototype is wearing. I would hardly imagine a third scenario. exactly. still though, the 320d paired to the 8speed sport auto should be a good car. now if they'll just tell me when it's going to be here.

Positions 4-7 in the VIN are 3D3C. That 'C' tells us that it's a U.S. market car. Its production code is 3D33 (the last '3' is often replaced by a 'C' - btw, the reason for that is a mystery to me, I just know that's how U.S. spec VINs are, but not why). 3D33's European counterpart is 3D31. 3D31 is the production code of 320d.
Position 10 is a 'D', so this is MY2013. The range F099000-F099499 is empty, even BMW's own online parts database doesn't have cars in that range. My guess is we're getting a tweaked version of EU 320d. |

okay. talked to my CA who is also the dealership fleet manager and while i was sitting there talking to her she was emailing someone at BMW NA. The diesel will be a 4 cylinder and will be here for 2014 with production starting in july or august. the same is true for the coupe models- no diesel coupes though- at least i don't think so.
