Lot of folks pulling for you. They caught in time! Aside one of the most preventable causes of cancer deaths if folks get annual screens. Doesn't have to be colonoscopy, ie occult blood test, other methods. Point is get tested. Best.

All the best.
Do you mind sharing your symptoms just in case it may prompt someone else to get something checked out?

Where I'm at they don't recommend colonoscopy until age 50. I can get one if I state that I have a family history of the disease, they can't actually check to see if that's the case per law so have to take my word for it. Did you just decide to get a colonoscopy or you had symptoms that prompted the test, or do you already get annual colonoscopies where you are at?

I know it's easy to say, but keep your spirits up Dobbo. Stage 3 removed quickly should give a very good prognosis.
My mother-in-law had a stage 4 several years ago, section of bowel removed, post-op chemo and she's fit and well. She's also regularly screened by way of blood tests to keep an eye on her levels - in my view that's a great place to be as all too often people have no idea that they have a problem. Very best wishes for the surgery and a rapid and full recovery.

The NHS have looked after both me and the wife fabulously in the past 5 years. The system is not perfect but the people are amazing, truly they are. All the best.

I just don't understand life sometimes. People who are fit and healthy get cancer. People who live off drugs, alcohol and tobacco just seem to go on for ever.
People who would make wonderful parents have fertility problems. Others to whom a child just means more benefits and a bigger house, if you flick sperm at them they get pregnant and then smoke, drink, take drugs throughout the pregnancy. Anyway end of rant. Glad yours has been caught in time. Hope everything goes well for your recovery. |

Very sorry to hear your news Dobbo but sounds like it's been caught in time and the improvements in cancer treatment have been significant over the last 20 years. Stay positive, all the best for a full and speedy recovery!

Wow. Guys. I'm overwhelmed. You have no idea how much I have taken from all of these replies. Thank you so much. I was out with the family last night having a nice meal so sorry I'm delayed in replying.
I'm going to be updating you all as we get through this and I'll try to share as much critical information as I can. Only to try to help others in the future. Yes. 46 is young to discover Stage 3 bowel cancer. Yes I'm fit, active and healthy. I'm out everyday walking big dogs and I regularly ride my Mountain Bike with my daughter who pushes me hard. I don't leisurely ride. I properly climb and descend at a decent standard. I've never had a great situation with my bowel movements to be honest. Bit loose and sometimes a bit time consuming. Over the past few years I've been having a small amount of blood. Early on it was a very small amount. Just a bit of red around the stool (the poo, not where I'd been sat down!!! ) I've the past 18 months the amount of blood increased and in that time visited my GP maybe 3 or 4 times. We always assumed together that haemorrhoids would be the likely cause. This is even after showing pics to the docs of quite a bit of thick blood. The last visit about 8 weeks ago also featured me talking about the days in recent weeks were my bowel movements changed significantly. If only for a few days. Two days I remember were a Saturday and Sunday when I was literally on the toilet 10-12 times each day. This was the trigger that led to my colonoscopy on the 25th of October. I was sedated during the procedure. I watched it all on screen though. In all its HD clarity I saw the tumour as the camera turned the first corner. I'll never forget that moment. Moral of the story so far is 'get tested' if you are in ANY doubt. The key trigger for my colonoscopy was a change in bowel habit. Not the blood. The blood was constantly written off as haemorrhoids. Hope this helps someone. Thanks again for all replies and best wishes. It is very powerful and I'm truly grateful. I'll keep you all updated. Oh and if my critical illness pays out I have LOADS of mods on my shopping list!!! Please help me spend!!!! Lol. Take care, Michael. Last edited by MickyD'bo; 11-12-2017 at 03:03 AM.. |
